Rev Counter to close
« on: March 14, 2020, 10:07:55 AM »
I know I'm not the only one here to use Rev Counter (TRC) forums, especially Staying Alive (https://www.therevcounter.co.uk/forums/11-Staying-Alive). So it was sad to read today that it will be closing down later this year. There have been some great discussions there and some excellent contributors. It will be missed.....

Following your link, I found some very informed individuals have been deep in discussion about safety issues. Ok, I thought, but prone to becoming a bit boring after a while.

And then I read this;

"I attempted to calculate just how much energy could be absorbed by a level 2 chest protector some years back (they were all-new and people were saying they would be good if you came off and hit a tree or had a car pull out in front of you). It wasn't easy, thanks to manufacturers confusing the issue by using different units, but I eventually came up with performance capable of absorbing the impact of a frozen chicken* hitting you at 30 mph.

* Why frozen chicken? They fire them at aircraft windscreens."

Or a brace of low flying pheasants or wood pigeon. Both have knocked the wind from my sails at different times. The difficult decision is whether to duck, swerve or take it on the pectorals!  :o

What is a "level 2 chest protector"? If it is what I think it is, I can see that it might reduce injuries if you are run over by a following road race or motoX competitor, but I'm not sure about it's efficacy when colliding with gamebirds, other road users or angular street furniture.

As for the Rev Counter (TRC) forum, I have not seen it afore and had a wee read of some of the threads. There appeared to be some good discusion and information mixed in with the odd bit of ribald joshing that often appears on these forums. Quite "Why?" Pussbook is the preferred option, rather than a forum, I am not sure? I suspect technical ignorance on my part and a large dose of "If you wish to be 'entertained', Facebook, on a mobile device (Note: not a portable machine!  :-X ) . If you wish to be 'educated', blog or forum on a desktop device.

It appears that the attention span of most people today can be timed in nano seconds and with the cognative power of less than that of an amoeba!  :(  Hence the demise of forums. Unfortunately, I note the apparent fall in the numbers of fellow 'Thumper' visitors to this forum and the re-direction of the SRX600 forum to this forum. Time waits for no man and the digital splurge hastens ever faster. You are going to be logged by Google, Amazon, FBI, PRC, or the FSB.

TC may follow Rev Counter (TRC).  :'(

Off for some spannering therapy and a walk!  ;)
