Cheap and Simple Carb Adjusting Tool

Hi all. So I needed to set the pilot screw on my dommie carb. But of course, the bike needs to be running, and the pilot screw is tucked away in the centre of the bike.
So, take any old bolt with a flanged head. Cut the threaded part with an angle grinder and shape so that it all you have left is a small stub which will fit the slot in the pilot screw. Then place bolt head in a ring spanner or ratchet spanner, and Bobs your mothers brother

Im not sure how many turns, as I havnt set it yet. When I took the carb off the bike to fit a new manifold, (from NRP, as the original one had a split along its length), I noticed that the pilot screw was a full four turns out. This definitely is excessive, as it should be somewhere between one and a half and three I'm guessing. I've put the carb back on with it set to two turns out as a starting point, but haven't got round to checking it yet.
The XBR manual recommends two and three quarter. As soon as I figure it out, I'll post it on this thread.
Anybody else out there know the answer?

I use to own a Cossack 650 ( flat twin) and I remember being shown someones 'top tip' for making sure both the carb slides were lifting at the same time. First he took off the rubber inlet hoses that go from the air filter to the carb mouths and put the bike on it's main stand. Next he took off his boots and socks and sat aboard the bike with a big toe in each carb mouth with the slide just resting on each big toe nail! When he opened the throttle he could feel which slide lifted first and adjusted them! Sounds wierd but it does work!....don't think you'd find it in the manual though!

Would work on an srx. Would strongly advise some warm up loosening first.

I use a 1/4 drive screwdriver bit and a 1/4" spanner....be it ring or ratchet !
Same idea really  :-)

Hi Tommy, Honda commie pilot screw should be set to three full turns out according to manual. I stilll  havnt got round to setting mine up. Jets should be a 155 and 48.
