Whats it worth?
« on: March 08, 2014, 06:06:21 PM »
Ok guys, after much consideration I'm thinking of parting with my faithful XBR500.  To be honest I've been using it less and less over recent years and it has spent the last 2 years stored in my garage. As a full time carer it's very unlikely I'm going to have the time to use it as it deserves and I hate to see it sitting there under dust covers not being used. Trouble is I don't know what to ask for it.

So, the good bits - quite a lot actually! Overall it's in very good, mostly original condition - Tank, panels, Mudguards all original paint, a few odd chips but very good.  Frame has been touched up here and there but clean and sound. Good tank, no leaks and only a couple of very minor dings, good rear wheel, rear seat cowl, genuine Honda exhaust system, downpipes and silencers in very good condition. Tyres OK but will probably need changing soon. Nice little flyscreen and mini indicators ( originals included). Has always been a good reliable  runner with no nasty noises and regular oil and filter changes, 31,500 miles.  Good HD 'O' ring chain and sprockets and Loobman chain oiler fitted along with a nice polished alloy Micron fork brace.  Overall it's a really clean and tidy bike.

The bad bits -  It has been standing in my garage ( properly covered) for the last 2 years and while it has been regularly kicked over it now refuses to start! It was working fine when it was laid up, so I suspect either an electrical problem or gummed up carb ( though it was drained). It will also need taxing - currently on SORN and MOT which shouldn't be to much of a problem since it only did 250 miles since the last MOT when it was laid up. I'll also include a workshop manual and a small selection of useful spares - generator, CDI, HT coil, spare rear wheel - if the price is right.

I really haven't got the time or opportunity to sort it myself so my question is what would be a fair price? Obviously as a non runner I'm not going to get top Dollar, but it is in very good condition with some sought after bits ( exhaust and seat cowl) so I don't want to give it away.

What do you think?
