for the last 4 years i've had a battery powered angle grinder in my boot... for just such an occurrence.. seems its now redundant
never got a chance to use it on my my car... but i did cut off the lock of a clamp on a female pensioners car, she was in tears sitting on the pavement next to her car, had been asked for £100 before they'd release her car apparently... so i took great delight in removing it for nothing... attracted quite a crowd... who all cheered as the clamp came off... i did get the lady's phone number.
put the clamp on top of a rubbish bin on the nearby lamp post and we all left the scene.
the police apparently would not furnish the (rogue) clamping company with the pensioners details... so that was a result all round.
A friend had a similar experience... but with spectacular results... he too cut off a clamp, (he was parked legally in Tottenham court road, whilst working with a mate.. they are electrical contractors).. they called the clampers and said they'd pay when they came to unlock the clamp... 10 minutes later a van parks up 20 yards down the road... 2 plonkers came over to friends van.. then saw the clamp was missing... big heated discussion ensued.. friend said another outfit had turned up , he'd paid them and the clamp was removed... more arguing.. then friends mate turns up and confirms the story .... in reality.. friends mate had just fitted the clamp to the clampers van!... complete with lock.... bloody wonderful... well, almost... unfortunately they were on the same contract all week, and although they took care to park in a different place each day... on the last day, returning to the motor.... 2 slashed tyres...bummer... he still reckons it was worth it though..
