I was wandering over to my engineer's place today and I spotted a lad in his mid 20s replacing suspension struts on an 'M' reg 3 series BMW in the street. I commented as I passed that I remember the days when I had to do my repairs in the open air and we laughed about it.
We got into a chat and, against all my prejudices, he turned out to be a really interesting bloke. I do like it when there's this clash between appearance and reality.
He, on the other hand, probably thought "another typical oafish builder who thinks he's funny"
