SRX 600 pick up's

hi there im still a bit new to this. I could do with some help the pickup on my 1986 srx6.4 are no longer working. And i do not want to pay a small mortgage for a new set from Yamaha . I have had the CDI tested and it is working, the wiring is good, reg/rec is working, coil, HT lead and spark plug are all good .  Me and two others have tested them. I did not know if there was some one with a set on here or if some one know's of a way round this problem. ie. a Boyer Ignition system or some thing!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have you tested the pickups?
somewhere in the manual the resistance is given for both, check then from the plug that goes into the CDi unit, and while the meter is connected (assuming you get a rerading) manipulate the cable to see if it has a break in it, do that with both.
if you can't get a reading then suspect the cable first.. this is prone to open circuit problems. you will need to take the l/h cover off to physically check that the pickups are mounted correctly, you can also check the resistance of the pickups at the wire termination end.
I'll check the manual later and post the details.

OK... the manual says this.

'Disconnect the pickup coil leads (white/green, white/red, and green) from the CDI unit. Connect the resistance test meter to White/Green - Green, reading should be 92-138 Ohms, then connect meter to White/Red - Green, same reading applies here.'

The colours may differ slightly depending on the origin of your bike (Japan, europe, GB or usa) but they are easy enough to spot.

Hi there Steve thank you for your help i appreciate it and i will look into this, as for the origin of the bike you will properly know better than me as you built it. Will let you know how i get on.

bluddy 'ell, did I.... which one?

was it the last one.... about 9 months ago??... ex john the plumber?... bit of a rats nest of wiring?

well, that was a uk bike (even though the speedo is KPH, due to john slinging out the original and fitting some crummy little chrome jobbies)
so the wiring (at the CDi and pickups) should roughly conform to the manual.

have you got the coloured wiring diag?

And another thing... John removed and lost the sidestand switch mechanism (as fitted to UK bikes), but the wiring was 'patched' so shouldn't be a problem, but might be worth a check
