Hi, does anyone know if the clutch assembly on the 400 and 600 are the same? (twin shock, kick start)
Thanks Christine.

i always bought 600 plates to go in 400's and they worked so i'd assume so.

I will consult both partslists and let you know (unless someone else beats me to it)

The 400 clustch basket has 76 teeth and the 600 74 teeth. The centre plate and the pressure plate have the same part numbers.
I may have a spare 600 clutch basket if you need one.

Thanks Steve,
If I get chance I will have a look today. I can't get neutral easily, when I first start the bike there is a big clunk as I put it into 1st. The adjuster on the handle bar end is right in and at the other end the lever lined up with the mark on the casing, no adjusting seems to make any difference.

Christine, I too am having a similar problem with the Hybrid not selecting neutral easily, so now I think you have given me the ooomph to get it sorted whilst its awaiting its carbs to be returned from "SRX 2011"  ;)

Has this suddenly started or has it got progressively worse ?. When you pull away is the clutch bite point close to the handle bar or further out ?. Have you changed the oil recently ?

Hi,  clutch bite point is in the right place, it does need an oil change. I have been using the halfords semi synthetic, can changing to a different oil help? I went to take it apart on Sunday but decided to wait until I have fixed the morini dart. The clutch has always felt heavy, do I slacken off the adjuster on the handle bar end then alter the other end so the mark on the lever lines up with the dot on the casing, then alter the handle bar end leaving 5mm movement in the clutch lever? Is there anything I am missing?

The bike has done 11000 miles, 8000 on the clock when I got it, it used to be silky smooth changing gear but after about 1000 miles started clunking into 1st when cold then not coming out of neutral, I managed to adjust it and that made a difference but it is not as good as it used to be. I should really have taken it apart over the winter.

Thanks for all the help!

The position of the pointer on the clutch arm is adjusted using the screw and locknut in the centre of the clutch. You will need to remove the clutch case to do this.
The heavy clutch may be that the cable has gummed up, I have seen a few engines where the end of push-rod which goes through the clutch has been chewed up, but it didnt seem to effect the operation.
It might be worth changing the oil, semi-synthetic should be fine, what grade are you using ?
I would be surprised if there is anything wrong after 11,000 miles, one thing that can cause this is that the fingers on the clutch basket get indented by the clutch plates which can 'discourage' it from releasing. You will need to inspect it to find out.
In the past I have found that if you turn the petrol off, remove the battery and lay the bike on its side you can remove the clutch cover without having to drain the oil.

I had a Morini 500 in the past, a great bike but it kept letting me down so had to go.
