What's deeply worrying is that, as a half-hearted guitarist, I don't recognise many parts of their playing technique. For example, what's going on when they use their right hand to hold down bass notes?
Some classic buffs are a bit sniffy about P's canon, but it is beautifully constructed. I have a recording of it here that was released years ago on Linn records (still available) on which the piece is played faster then you often hear it and without all the usual vibrato flourishes; what this does is to highlight its mathematical precision. After several glasses of brandy and with the volume turned up in the early hours of the morning the Linn recording once reduced me and my mate Dusty to tears. We're idiots like that.
