For some time now I have been working on moving the site across to a different framework. This is now largely complete and the old site has been archived.
The main reason for the change was that the content of the original site was static and relied heavily on me to make changes, this tended to be a bottleneck and things like photographs would take me some time to update the site with. The new framework is hopefully more flexible and will allow the membership to contribute more to the content.
The first stage has been to improve the uploading of photographs. Its now possible to upload five pictures at a time, these are automatically added to the album, and immediately visible. This means they can easily be added to your posts on the forum. The latest image will always be displayed in the banner, which means I no longer have to post messages on the forum about new images.
I am currently looking a number of other additions to the site, some feedback on whether these would be useful would help me to focus my efforts on particular areas
- Blogs - Anyone fancy doing a blog, I was thinking this could eventually replace the Project Progress section on the forum. If anyone wants to try this out please let me know.
- A Calendar of events, this would give a more visual view of events through the year. This will be open to the club so that anyone can add/edit events. I see this complementing rather than replacing the Events section on the forum. I am currently working on this.
- Adding/Creating/Editing new Articles
Is there anything else that you have found useful on other sites that you would use here ?.
The new framework is an Open Source project, this has a lot of different modules contributed to it (the form integration being a good example), on the plus side this means I can add functionality relatively quickly, the donside being I have no control over the source which does mean it can sometimes be difficult to adapt to exactly what we need.
Lastly I would like to thank those of you who have been using the new site for a while now and provided useful feedback.
Cheers
Steve
