Boring post about valve clearances, sorry
« on: August 13, 2008, 12:19:16 PM »
Can anyone tell me the "official" valve clearances for

(a) XBR500
(b) XBR500 after Honda changed the recommendation in a vain attempt to prevent stalling
(c) NX650

?

I'm trying to decide on the optimum clearances for my GB650, whose engine is from an NX650 but has some of the character of an XBR - ie it continues to make "power" higher up, due either to the removal of metal from inside the head, or the cam, or both (I didn't build it and have not looked inside).

Cheers
Richard

The 'official' Honda manual settings for XBR (F) are:

Inlet        0.10mm (0.004in)
Exhaust    0.12mm (0.005in)

Don't know about the NX650 - Ken   - Kerebo - might know  :-\

Hondas 'revised' tappet settings for the XBR are are 0.15mm inlet and 0.19mm exhaust.

I dunno about the NX650 either.

Thanks all. Three questions answered in three posts. That's what I call efficient ;-)

PS - I'm toying again with selling the XBR outfit. Does anyone want an outfit?
