SRX forks
« on: April 05, 2008, 11:35:32 PM »
Hi I have a srx 400 (87 model) but with twin discs so am presuming it has a 600 front end ..my probklem is that the richt hand side fork leg seal keeps going.  I guess my only choice is to either have the existing forks reground and chromed etc or get hold of another set of forks,.  Was wondering if anyone knows what other forks will fit as Srx ones seem impossible to find ....many thanks

We didn't get SRX 400s here in the States, but I'll bet you have a burr or some other imperfection in your right fork leg that is cutting the fork seal.

Drop the lower leg (slider)and check it out.

Some automatic transmission sealer and reconditioner... about one ounce per leg... will keep the seals soft, and if it has air caps on the forks run them with about 5lbs of pressure.

If it doesnt have air caps on the fork legs, install some.  Just drill and tap them for a standard air valve... it also makes fork oil changes a snap.

  That should solve the problem.

I have had similar problems on some of mine....and i took the grind/rechrome route on one set, approximate cost 120 quid....and i have also taken the cheap option of stripping them rubbing down all the pitted areas with very fine wet & dry, then after thoroughly cleaning them filling the pits with epoxy resin and rubbing down again until PERFECTLY smooth....both options cured the problem...just depends on your pocket
