Not off the top of my head but braided hose and fresh fluid makes a big difference, and when (some time ago) I combined that with a new disc and pads and a caliper rebuild the front brake was great, certainly they were good enough to overpower the front tyre...
When you say they're poor what do you mean? Lack of bite, lack of power, lack of feel, fading?

I would imagine there is a way to twin it but personally I'm not convinced it's worth the aggro, there are a number of XBR outfits running around with single discs, the clutch however... doesn't like big loads and start stop riding!  :-[  ;)

I've got no problem with the standard front brake, it pulls my overloaded sidecar outfit up well enough. I used to do great stoppies on my solo XBRs and my GB...

However, the CX650 front end (complete) will fit although you have to modify how the clocks, ignition and fusebox mount. This gives you a twin disk set-up with an 18" reverse comstar wheel exactly like the XBR wheel.

Have to say that the single disc on my XBR works fine ( standard caliper/ disc and Brembo pads). Not up to modern superbike standards but more than enough for a 500 single.

Before you change the front end you want to check the brake caliper as when I first got my bike the front brake wasn't too good and it turned out that one of the brake pistons was sticking slightly and so the pistons weren't coming on evenly effectively giving a single piston caliper

Also worth fitting a stainless braided hose. Finally you can fit the adjustable brake lever from a CBR600 to adjust the span.

Undertook the same mods recommended by Smudge and fitted new pistons and seals to the calliper (purchased from Wemoto, Onepot supplied the link some time back).
Front brake turned from terrible to reasonably good. The only thing I didn't do was change the disk which I will do later this year.
I will buy the wavy disk from Wemoto which seems expensive but I am prepared to give it a shot if it has the potential to improve braking performance.

There's a 320mm disc convertion on a gb500 at this link. http://lovik.tripod.com/Clubman7-schottmeier.html

I've seen the kit somewhere on the net but I can't fid it now - I think it's a link from www.xbr.de

Found this. Uses a NTV650 320mm disc and home made adapter.

AH There your problem!.......20 years of brake development!   In that case the only way to bring the XBR stoppers up to Ducati level is to carry a 2 foot length of scaffolding tube and when you want to stop shove it into the front wheel!!! ::)

I bet it makes the front wheel a bastard to remove past the caliper, but it's a neat conversion nevertheless.

The same ones that are diligently smeared with coppaslip every time they go back in? I feel, in this case, unfairly castigated  ;)

Ooooh, that must smart!  :o  ;)
What the ones that Honda tell you never to re-use but to replace and fit using a smear of loctite  ;)  ;D

Nope, I retract that unfair slur... in case anyone should see the state of my outfit (which doesn't even run at the moment so you beat me there!  :-[ )
