At Llanthoney I half started a conversation with GC about stoves. I think some sort of alchohol then got in the way and I never got look at the various means of burning sausages doing the rounds. My MSR Dragonfly is a cracking stove, but after 8 years is now held together with baleing wire. What I'm after is a petrol stove that'll take a proper sized pan and simmer for hours. Size is less of an issue as i'm back on three wheels.

Did someone mention Svea? How much should I pay, I saw one at £40 which seemed steep for well used on E-bay.

I'm not really interested in gas, coal, wood or atomic power as I do like to be able to empty the stove into the bike before push comes to shove.

Any thoughts from what at the time were refered to as "the stove anoraks" by (I think) a certain Bullet rider are appreciated.

Opti 111B (or 111T if you want a multifuel stove, i.e. petrol and paraffin with a change of jet).

The older British army stove (No2 I believe) is also a superb petrol burner, but heavy.

The Optimus stoves are fetching good money now on the Bay 

There is a smaller self-pressurising optimus stove called a 7R, but it isn't as hot or as useful as the 111.

There's a 111 on eBay now (with 4 days to go) at £19:99 + £4:99p&p (item no. 130177426569) and a  "new" Model No.5 in its original box for just over a tenner. I can see GC's bidding fingers at work already.

No, I am all played out with stoves. I bought all the great collectible items (Phoebus, Svea 123, pristine 1934 Primus 96, etc. etc.) and I find that I am happy with the brassware I've got.

Which rather embarrassingly reminds me that I owe you some money for a lamp

Not to worry Graham, it's not as though I've been about is it? Just buy me a pint when you see me. I really must make sure I attend some events in 2008 (I was gutted about missing Dent). This year I have hardly had the time to get the old girl out of the garage.......but that's enough about Dawn - Boom Boom!

I got an Optimus Hiker on e-bay. Looks about right, so just have to wait for Royal Mail and it'll be back to proving to the neighbours I'm a nutter. Cooking in the garden in December doesn't do you any good on the sanity credentials front, especially when you think "It's a test run for a camping trip in February" is a logical explanation

I believe the Hunter is the modern name for the 111. You won't regret it mate. My Opti 111 set me off on that wierd stove-collecting phase and ironically it's still the stove I'd keep if I only had to have one.

Cooking in the garden in winter - been there, done that, taken the pictures to prove it on the stovie website

The Boxing Day barbie - complete with brollies, followed by the New Years eve barbie and the camping trip to the Lakes for New Year (not the same year).

MMmmm Soloing on Stannage on Christmas day was fun - but nowtr to do with stoves - apart from needing on to warm up.

I see you are still seriously into stoves, but leaving the "Collectors" items, I recently purchased a new stove for the use of my Venturer son, and am delighted with a very nice accessory that converts those expensive "cans" of gas that screw to the bottom of the stove to those long tubular inexpensive cans(1/3rd the price). The stove and converter all fits into two pockets, and the cans of gas can fit into bottle holders on day packs.
