weekend debrief...
« on: July 08, 2007, 08:51:35 PM »
Wow!..dry weekend at  last....got a pass out to nip off down to london and watch the tour de france prologue time trial....good spectacle.....rode straight up to the albert hall, parked round the back, walked across to hyde park, and had a good view (would've still been in the traffic queues if i'd gone by car), on the way down i stopped at the 'Ace' for a coffee and burger (very reasonably prices and good quality) there was a bike show on, sponsored by BSH, not really my sort of stuff, but you have to admire the excellence of the engineering, and fantastic paint jobs. On the way back i stopped at the side of the road on top of the M11, and watched the end of the Duxford air show.....the sound of a merilin engine being given some welly still makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up... fantastic...home in time for a bloody good spag/bol and a bottle of merlot....number4 behaved impeccably...shame she's got to go.....was a lovely 240 mile round trip

saw the tour just outside tonbridge, great to see millar in a breakaway group on home soil.

can't get itv4 on digibox so i'm left to the mercy of the bbc to find out whats going on.

i had to laugh (well blaspheme anyway) last year when the winner of the tour got 5 seconds on the news, whilst some inane overpaid & overwieght footballer got 5 minutes coverage for kicking a ball.

Well I am back, and a good time was had by all. Boyd arrived on the Saturday morning and the organisers put us on adjoining sections. This meant we could chat until the bikes arrived at which point it was all go.

As an aside, Boyd very kindly allowed me to try his SRX, which was instructive as I have never been able to understand the cult following. I have to say, I get it now, a real rider's bike!

I would highly recommend the trial to anyone interested in classic iron that actually does a
days work. Don't just come and watch but if you chip in and "observe"
as I did you get fed and a T-shirt so as bike events go it is very
reasonable. They are always looking for help and the vast majority of
riders are delightfully polite and grateful.

I will post some pics
of the action and a couple of bikes when I get a chance.

The clutch was fantastic and my "can't find neutral" days appear to be
over. I came home through mid-Wales at a clip, on
the throttle all the way and in terms of overtakes it was a red letter
day. I took a back road from Aber and she was in her element -
wonderful!!

Friday night went out for a meal with six women, four younger than me.  None of them my wife. Walked home through the woods - could not see a thing - really dark, but senses buzzing in the realisation that if I lost the path in places it is something like a 50 foot steep drop into the brook.

Spent most of the weekend in bed after that.

Thankfully it was the ME (payment for a night out I guess) not food poisoning or SWMBO deciding that letting me out with inebriated women was a bad idea.
