Gus the guerrilla.
Been on holiday for two weeks and been riding Bruce the scram before that, so Gus the guerrilla hasn't had a run for four weekends. Managed to get out on Gus this morning for a 70 mile run around the lower Yorkshire dales. Was out for 7.15 so had the roads mostly to myself.
The Royal Enfield Guerrilla is a cracking, fun bike. Totally different to the scram 411. A relatively short stroke engine it needs to rev more than the scram, but it revs freely and makes decent torque after 4000 rpm. Below 3000 rpm it is very chattery to ride and won't accept throttle. But the bike is all about fun at legal speeds. The throttle response above 3000 rpm is immediate and urgent. It's not a bike well suited to sauntering about. It likes to go.
Steering and handling after jumping off the scram feel quicker and a bit more precise. The bike in general feels like a lively little pup. Suspension feels firm at town speeds but is well judged as you get up to back road blast speeds. Copes well with the toads typically found in the dales. Rear brake lack lustre but the front brake is keen and strong.
The air box noise is a stand out feature of the riding experience. Always rumbling in the background but takes on a snarl when you give it some throttle.
It's a bike that's easy to manage physically, but I wouldn't say it's a doddle to ride with respect to the engine. You can't just chug around without thinking too much. So in that respect, it's an engaging bike. Quirks equate to character. It grows on you the more times you ride it. It represents excellent value for money and I count myself lucky to have two very different thumpers to ride. Also have an electric frankenscoot, but that's another story. 😁🤟
Enjoy the ride dudes.
