Title: New steed
Post by: manxie on September 08, 2019, 08:20:57 PM
First run out on the latest steed today, love it. Why didn`t I buy one of these years ago? 2012 RE 500 Bullet, 1100 miles but this will most definitely rise  ;D ;D

Well I have never owned one, but have ridden a couple.  I found them utterly charming to ride which almost completely cured me of the desire to go fast.

Stopping anywhere immediately led to hordes of old men descending to tell me about the one they had ridden.

Unfortunately the experience of taking an engine out of the frame did cure me of the desire to actually have one of my own.

Nice one Steve... best of luck with it and enjoy the rest of the decent weather we hopefully have left. I know big bro Andy loves his 👍
Cheers, Michael

I love the Bullet, had a 1960 model many years ago, very tough bike, blew a head gasket miles from anywhere, I was able to remove the head, chuck the gasket away bolt it back up and get home with just a 1/2 inch spanner and a small adjustable

Ayup Manxie

I agree the Bullets are brilliant bikes. I also agree that if you ever take the motor out of the frame make some sort of jig first or be prepared for a 3 hour battle to get it back in!

Other than that they are tough as hell and a lovely mellow ride. Enjoy.

Ian

Hi Rufus.
The bike`s going good. I`ve not done anything to it … yet but have managed to source a Hitch ocks silencer, second hand and was only on a bike for 50 miles, which is due soon. MPG, don`t know? I just put fuel in and use it to be honest. How fast? The other day I nearly hit 80 on it going DOWN the Mountain Mile but only had 70 on the flat, but I am a fat b###er  ;D I`m reading your posts and enjoying them, keep them coming  ;)

Hey Bill.
What a nightmare yesterday was! I`ve never seen flooding like it over here. I went to work via the Mountain and the water was flowing past me as I was stopped in traffic. I was stopped in the tailback for the Creg up at the 33rd milestone. The water flowing down the Creg must have been 2ft deep …. it was bad.
Then they closed the Mountain, and the Ramsey to Douglas coast road, so the only way back north was via the TT course. Laxey, as I`m sure most of you have seen, was a disaster zone and you have to feel for them. Thankfully I`ve not heard of any injuries so hopefully all was OK?

Yes, snorkel time for the RE and maybe some balloon tyres just in case  ;)

Go steady fella`s, enjoy and stay safe.

Glad to hear that you're not affected to much by the horrendous floods Steve. Watched the footage on news at ten last night, was like that village in Cornwall a few years back. Absolutely unbelievable. Take it easy...oh and defo pack those deep sea diving fins when you have to venture out..cheers, Michael
