Title: Places of Interest
Post by: timbo on April 16, 2019, 11:40:03 AM
Hi folks, what i'm after is suggestions of places to visit in the greater Midlands area. I know there's the obvious ones such as the National Motorcycle Museum. I'm interested in the more obscure little museums that are spread about the area, and would make a good day out, by those of us that are spread across this area and free during the week mainly, but would also consider places only open at weekends, such as the great little Tettenhall Transport Museum in Wolverhampton. Anything transport, engineering, industrial, military. That sort of thing really. The other thing is bike meets. For example, there's a meet at the Raven Cafe near Whitchurch on Thursday evenings. Cheers  :D

Coventry Transport Museum is ace.  You can park out the front, free to get in and a great little coffee shop.  Often has owners club meets out the front as well at weekends.

I agree. There are some interesting bikes there (including Ted Simon's Triumph with all its dings and scars), as well as pushbikes, cars etc. I often pop in if I fancy an afternoon out.

I like Ironbridge and the Black Country Industrial Museum as well although they're not cheap.

Try the Cotswold Motoring Museum at Bourton on the Water - cars and bikes aplenty.

Hi Tim, I'd be up for a mid-week ride.
Post up when you're ready.
Dave.

I can add :-

And finally the Wellesbourne Wartime Museum at Wellesbourne airfield. This is sadly only open on Sundays and though it is fairly small, it is well worth a visit. There's a bostin cafe on site too!

The trouble* with these steam railways is that it's much better to look at them from the outside than ride in their rackety old carriages.....

*trouble in the sense that they don't make any money from the gongoozlers.
