Title: I wasn't expecting that!
Post by: Smithy on March 05, 2019, 06:47:52 PM
Hi fellas

As you may have read elsewhere I have been having some quality issues with the Mighty Enfield. Well yesterday I started an oil change as at 20000 miles it was 2500 miles since the last one. The last oil change showed lovely clean drain plugs and a clean mesh filter, however this time there is a considerable amount of swarf and filings on the magnetic plugs and a couple of flakes of metal approximately 2mm square on the mesh. Bollocks.

I'm a cautious man so the prospect of a bearing breaking up scares me. What to do?

I decided to use my mum's small legacy and buy myself a brand new Honda CRF250 Rally. Well why not? A friend of mine has one and it is a cracking little thumperette which doesn't need constant attention.

The local Honda dealer (Vertu Honda Nottingham) had one in stock and prepared it and got me back on the road in 4 hours! Big shout out to Matt and the team.

I am keeping the Mighty Enfield and will tear the motor down to inspect what is going on. The time off the road will allow me to give it some much needed TLC too and now I have the Honda it won't have to work quite so hard in future.

Nice surprise for the day.

Ian

Bummer about the Enfield. Sprag? If not then gearbox? Might pay to remove primary case for an inspection. Keep us informed.

On the upside you got a new bike! Congrats 😁
