Title: Small Bike Lift
Post by: xbally on February 28, 2019, 10:06:49 PM
Anyone use one of these? I was hoping to get a full size motor cycle lift as my knees and back now make it difficult to scrabble around at ground level when working on my bikes. I don't have the room now for a full size one and wondered if the smaller and cheaper ones are worth trying?

Aye xbally,

Have a look at these, the local tyre fitter uses one and the local motorcycke servicing garage uses one, along with more conventional tables and front wheel stands. Besides the 'Superbike stand' the 'Sky Lift' appears to be the 'RollsRoyce' job and maybe better than my 'EazyRizer'. However, I prefer my 'EazyRizer' and it isn't 'out of stock' as is the 'Sky Lift'.

Don't forget that with the wee dodgers for quads and Harley's you have to fix the damn thing to the stand for stability and that may involve being on your hands and knees!  :(

I hope this helps, Bill

I have something like this for llifting the SRX. https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/LiftMaster-680kg-Motorcycle-Bike-Lift-ATV-Quad-Jack-1500lb/24022764964?iid=123652424635 I did however need to make a cradle which bolts to the frame other wiase it wast particularly stable.
Also fits under a mini subframe so I can lift that as well

I use something like this:

as my garage is too small to have a conventional ramp type lift. The one I have is useful as I can move the bike from side to side to get access to both sides, and it folds up quite small when not in use.

The downsides are that it isn't as stable as a ramp, especially fore and aft, and some bikes don't have a flat under-surface to support the frame - I made a wooden adaptor for the Guzzi V50.

This is my (very untidy) garage with the Norton on the lift:

Don't know about untidy, but a tad disorganised. I mean, the bog roll should be lower and a bit closer to the toilet, which I presume is just out of shot?!

No it's not out of shot, he just removes the white chair and swaps it with a porta loo 😁😁🚽

Not a bad idea! Whenever I try to sneak in for a loo break, I get assigned jobs. The plants at the side of the garage are well watered!

You should be pleased, Martin. I mean, we both know I currently have a red, 20L metal receptacle with it's lid off in the garage! I'll post Monday.... ;D

That proves I started off with one!

In other news, I started using workshop rolls rather than greasy rags a few years ago. Much nicer and better at wiping stuff up and not that expensive. My bikes are all of course now bog standard.....
