i may be wrong... (quite normal :-) ).... but i think the Husqvarna Vitpilen 701 @ 692.7cc is the biggest 'in production' single

Morning chaps... yes John the ktm us 690cc. Martin (xbally) bought one a few months back so he's probably the best man to give a shout out to possibly give the low down on one. Cheers, Michael

Yep that's me. Mad bike, probably the maddest i've had!And that includes about 10 Kawa 2 stroke triples. It ain't a plodder at all. In fact it's more like a (none MZ) 2 stroke.Power comes in a bit like a turbo!(ie quickly!) 70 brake and very light. Main issue is tractability due to FI (emissions). It doesn't like small throttle openings.Loves to be thrashed everywhere. The jury's out on build quality. Mine's a 15 reg (3000 miles only) and i've got to take it back to check out a coolant leak which could be something or nothing.

if its a big single he wants, there are still a few dr750 and dr800 suzukis about but prices are edging upwards now.

Thanks, he`s looking to buy new, I suggested a Himalayan but he thinks it may not be capable on the odd occasion when he has his wife on, they are both biggish, he likes the 690 ktm but in Durham all the 390  owners  we know have had trouble with them,  so he is a bit put off.  I told him to keep his vstrom for two up and get a Himalayan for solo use..

What is wrong with an XT660?  :-\

Personally, an air-cooled XT600 or a Suzuki 650 air/oil-cooled machine, either Suzuki, CCM or Sachs could be on the cards, with the Suzuki motor. This motor can be taken out to 790cc, with a ProCycle kit:

ProCycle_790cc_Suzuki_single (https://procycle.us/info/articles/dr650/780-kit.html)

Not sure about reliability or total cost, also, apart from the Sachs the other machines may not take kindly to 2 "biggish" persona aboard.

Another option might be to go the Suzuki 'Savage' 650 single route, with a enlarged bore kit fitted.

Something to mull over and kick around as you wait for the traffic to move on the M?? when waiting for 2cm of snow to be cleared or the lorries are backed up from the Chunnel to the M25 parking circle and beyond!!  ;D  A facetious poke!  ;)

Nochd math, Bill

Not the biggest, but worth a look, especially as it's (mostly) British.....  the CCM Spitfire, the Foggy version puts out 62bhp, not atall shabby...

Aye Steve,

BUT! The price is an eyewatering £12,495  ??? ::) :-X and the seating doesn't appear suitable for 2 "biggish" persona aboard.

Also the underseat chestnut griddle doesn't really appeal!  ::)

Looks OK though and I suspect if I could scrub the 'Caution' programme from the grey matter it would be fun on our twisty, uppy downy, roads.

Good health, Bill

you're right Bill, I suspect that most will, at best, be used for a 10 mile run to the local bike meet, on a warm summer afternoon for a bit of posing, the remainder will probably be hung on the living room wall  ;).

Mmmm.  :-\  Waste of a nice wee bit of kit, if it becomes an ornament. Unless they bark and 'make progress', might as well be a bean can!  ;)

Regards, Bill
