I wonder if installing a Suzuki GN250 engine into a DR125 (as in this ad) is straightforward or did it require some fettling? Looks well done IMHO.
"Suzuki Dr 125 with a gn 250 engine...driving 100% and starts on the button..electrics all working perfectly....only used for tipping around fields and wood trails...road registered with logbook....great fun had on this bike tyres are decent still"

i once fitted a gn400 engine into an xl125 frame, it was fecking mental. had a klr650 kawasaki cv carb on it and a mild porting job. went like a raped ape, snapped the frame on several occasions. and was hilarious off road. swapped it in the end....... for a cr500...

Engine conversions eh?....a few months back I fitted a CRF230 (Zongshen copy) into a Derbi Terra Adventure...fits like it was supposed to, 2valve, air cooled, electric start, Mikuni carb and about 18bhp.

I can't be sure but it was either 1200 or 1500 euros (it was for sale in Southern Ireland).
That Derbi special sounds very interesting Dave - I remember speaking to you about it at Bridgnorth. Would love to see a few photos. Always liked the look of them as they are quite a big bike for a 125.
I picked up a 50 year old Honda CT90 during the summer and had thought about slotting in one of those Chinese made 125 engines.

The original 125 engine made about 15bhp at about 10,000rpm with at 6 speed box...the Zongshen 230 makes about 18bhp @ 7000rpm, with peak torque @ 5500rpm with a 5 speed box.
The original gearing was 15/51...which was far too low, so I went to 17/38 (max) which gives me 60mph @ 5500 and the last fuel check I did was 95mpg with an 11L tank.
Zongshen recommend a 30mm carb, but that's far too big IMO, so I settled on a 26mm Mikuni copy and it fuels well.
I had to change from ECU to CDI for ignition and 3 phase to 2 for charging and move the battery and electronics into the airbox, simplifying things as I went along, giving me a few wires left over...LOL.

Nice little bike, you could go on the NACC runs with that...the group's quite active in NI....as regards engines, when we came over on our mopeds, I cheated by having a Chinese copy of a CL70 (50cc engine fitted from new), but I fitted a 110 engine and it runs a treat...55mph and 130mpg...I use it over here on runs that have hills.

That looks very neat Dave, like it came out of the factory. Gearing must be on the high side judging by the back sprocket but can't complain about 95mpg!
