As some of you may know, pending the sale of my mother's house, I've been waiting to retire all summer. A bitter / sweet pill obviously, but being able to retire has given some meaning to her death for me. Anyway, it all finally went through at the end of September and I thought I was going to be left with about 5k for retirement toys, that was until the step son and his girl friend announced they were buying a house, and you guessed it, the retirement toys fund went towards their deposit :(.
I'm very happy for them obviously, but this meant a complete change in my plans. I sold the little MZ150 for £720 and this was the best I thought I was going to find in my price range. MCN hate them, so I knew I'd probably like one! £845 inc 12 months MOT seems great value to me. A genuine 21k miles on the clock, so should be mechanically fine, though it does need a little bit of cosmetic work, mainly a damn good clean and polish, and maybe some silver paint for the spokes. I rode it home last night from Nottingham, which is about 70 miles and it really does go very well for what it is. Performance is easily on a par with the F650 I sold earlier this year, though being a twin, it's obviously a lot more revvy.
I just wish I could do something about the 80's shell suite paint scheme, but beggars can't be choosers.

You bought a bike to match your garage door! Hee hee.
Nice one Pete. I'm a fan of those motors. Given the state of the roads it gets more like motocross every day.
Enjoy.

Morning Pete, yes looks like a good buy. Hope it keeps on running well for you......oh and that "shell suit paint scheme " .... simple cure. Go to Halfords and buy a big tin of satin black hammer rite along with a decent brush, couple of hours in the garage and ....hey presto no more shell suit 😁😁🤘
Happy painting.....eerrr I mean riding 🤣
Cheers, Michael

Looks like a good buy Pete. But a parallel twin? You'll be chucked off here......
70 miles from Nottingham? You must have taken the scenic route.

Like it Pete. I had an ER5 which is basically the same motor and in 43000 miles it never let me down and I didn't have to touch the valve clearances once.
I too have spent some inheritance on a new bike. My mum died in August and left me a very small amount of money some of which I have just spent on a BMW K100 project bike. Another not a thumper but I love them having had 3 others.
Don't worry though the mighty Enfield remains my firm favourite.

Thanks for the good wishes folks. Tbh, it's not a colour scheme I'd choose myself, but having spent most of my youth running round on MZ's, the time when I gave a damn about appearances is long gone. I'm sure it'll grow on me in time, and at least it's easy to find in the car park! ;D

Buy an oversize shell suit to match it. Mate once had similar scheme all-in-one oversuit, sadly lost on the M90 (the suit that is).
These look great value, I think like the Vigor/SLR, the fact that it's sensible abd not out and out trailie means there are a few unshagged ones around, and they dont fetch big bucks. A co fy way to travel, and it will go mildly offroad for camping. Or survive potholes in town!
