I just got myself a scruffy but sound SR250, main reason for getting it was that my suzuki 50 sprint bike was so uncomfortable i had to get rid of it, first sprint is in July so something else was needed , the new class they have suggested is for jap singles up to 250cc, so i thought the sr would be ok , but it turns out to be a slug ! so, new plan is to use my `trail` gn as the sprint bike and turn the sr into the trail bike, the advantage of this is that i could use it in the Beamish Trophy Trial next year as its old enough whereas the GN`s aren`t. So the wheels are coming out of the gn and getting replaced with another pair that have good road tyres and another tooth on the front sprocket, and the sr will get 3 less teeth on the front, down from 16 then after the july sprint there is a hillclimb in september for the gn, following this so far ? wish i was............... :o

Best o luck spooky... look forward to hearing how ya go on with the sprint
-
Thanks ! it`s just a bit of fun, i am not expecting to achieve anything apart from self satisfaction, just something i want to have a go at.
-
Excellent, keep us all informed of your exploits :)

Aske Hall sprint today, I used my gn250 with standard gearing and road tyres, number boards, wired sump plug, stands taken off and had a hell of a day !! i even came home with a pot for `first in class` there was only me in the 250cc road class !!!!!!!!
but who cares, I was still faster than some bigger bikes so not the slowest, great fun, i rode the bike there and back as well which surprised a few people, i got two practice runs and 6 timed, got my time down from 20.90 to a best of 19.09..
-
Brilliant! Satisfaction is a great result especially if it's self generated for little money. I used to do MZ racing years ago for the same reason with little hope of success but I got a great deal of self satisfaction.
Keep up the good work

Spooky you're a real antidote to the 'must buy the latest Honyamazuki 1500' crowd. You are having a real blast on unlikely bikes in a very real way. Keep it up and thanks for proving that money does not equal fun!
Think I might take the mighty Enfield and do a track day sometime just for a laugh.

Love this story Rufus! Congratulations on your enjoyment and achievement :)

Well after my grand day out at Aske Hall Sprint in July I am now entered for this coming sundays Catterick Hill Climb (tarmac) I will be using the trusty `do everything` GN250 again, I have considered changing the front sprocket again but in the end decided to go with standard 15/41, I have no idea what to expect having never seen the hill apart from on youtube videos so as ever it`s all about fun ! I will let you know how i get on....
-
Hats-off to you! Dave TV will be along at some point to commision a documentary...
-
Here, here....well done on just getting out there and enjoying it and having FUN. Sshh....keep it quiet or you might start a bit of a rush 👍👍..cheers, Michael
-
well a good day out hillclimbing.. 50 entrants and i managed to be 30th fastest, there was only one other road bike and that beat my time by about 7 seconds, but it was a bmw 1000 so i don`t feel too bad about it, ftd was a 560cc Norton single at 35.8 seconds, my best was 45.03.. great fun, i will have to get the hacksaw out and try and lighten the old GN , might give me a few extra tenths off my time, or i could lose weight....
-
Well done.
-
Nice one Rufus! :)
-
Thanks ! can I email someone a photo ? and maybe you would put it on, proof that gn`s can go quick..
-
Nice one. Looking forward to seeing the photo. 👍

Having trouble trying to load a photo, :(
Are you doing it from a tablet?
-
no a laptop, when i gave up with photobucket i tried another photo hosting thing but it didn`t agree with my computer, so now i can`t put pics on, i tried the attachment thing below the topic text box but that won`t work for me, i`m not brilliant with these things.
-
Aye Rufus, this is the image of the last run of the day, hope it appears as you intended.

Thanks Bill, I had to put a wooly jumper on to try and hide my gaudy leathers, ..
-
Gooo on. Get them footpegs down 😂😂🍻

The last time I saw focus like that in someone's eyes was with Lorenzo when he won his last moto GP 😁😁👍.... good photo, looks like ya had even MORE fun.
Cheers, Michael

ian at iansoady dot org dot uk & I'll put it on.
-
thanks Ian, but bill has already done it for me..
I don`t know much about jap 2 smokes but i think they have a bit more hp than a gn, there was a honda nsr mc16 that was 3.51 seconds faster and a yamaha tz250 that was 0.15 seconds faster, a very nice yellow sr/xt 500 special got a best time 4.13 quicker, the mdmc website has some photos on, lots of thumpers, here if link works..

Aye Rufus, thank you for posting the link. Good to see Bill and Maggie Tuer out in the Moggie and a goodly variety of different bits of kit.
My regards, Bill

Yes some nice machines, the second photo of no 87 (Eigenbau) was taken just before he came to grief i think, it`s very powerful and quick, the FTD went to no 19, 640cc es2 with the blue frame
-
Aye Rufus, those pushrod motors can be made to produce a lot of grunt, with a whole lot of experience and careful assembly. The Wal Phillips 'injector' must of been doing it's job! ;)
If these are your sort of bits of kit then I think that you will enjoy this man's website: Pushrod_Performance (http://www.pushrod-performance.co.uk/services.htm)
I suspect Ian may be off to see him with that ES2 of his, nudge and a wink. ;)
My regards, Bill

No, it's already too fast for me.....

Looks like an enjoyable way to spend the day for both the competitors and spectators. Nice to see a big variety of machinery at an event these days - I like the look of Honda 250RS if that's what it is!
Found some more photos on one of the Kawasaki W650 forums - hope the link works

Yes it was a cb250 rs, a bit modified, running in the road going category, quicker than my gn by 2.76 seconds, maybe i need clip ons and a fairing...
-
Aye Rufus, this image from the site that Rossco referred to makes Me think that you had a grand day. ;)
