£500 more than the Mash, but all the cycle parts are European and only the engine is from China AFAIK, so probably worth it.

Really like it :)

Looks very tidy but expensive....
Speaking of Mash, I've seen a used one for sale for the first time (this month's Real Classic). £1850 or offers which is starting to approach my territory - but now I have the Guzzi I hope I'll be settled for a while.

it looks like the 250 travel motor ? is it based on one maybe, i quite like it but not at that price...

It's the Shineray unit Spooky, XBR500 based, and the same as used in the Mash400 range....
-
I wonder what price the RE GT750 Interceptor will be ;)

so it is so it is, must read things properly....

Think I would prefer a bigger Rotax motor in there.
-
i think thee engine choice is based on the restrictions and licencing regimes in the bigger markets of the world. the uk market isnt really worth thinking about in comparison to say india or china. in that company, we get what they decide to give us.

Very nice, just like my 1976 JAWA 350 was apart from the engine. Speaking of which is it really based on the XBR as that motor was a dry sump motor but this looks wet sump. Isn't it more likely to be based on the CL motor? I await correction from experts.

Dunno, but there are two pipes on the right/front engine casing looking suspiciously similar to the xbr system. .....?
More "cues" from the xbr. It looks to have just one gear driven balancer, forward of the crank. Speculation mind.
-
It looks like a dry sump motor, if you look closely at the photos, you can see the oil tank with sight glass above the gearbox.
Looks nice though...if a bit pricey.
Dave.

That's what I like about this forum, I'm always learning. It does indeed look like a dry sump motor now I look where you both mention. Thanks for the info.

well.... there's a thing .... doesn't that kick start lever look very similar to the SRX one (which is unobtaneum) ... i might just get one (lever that is, not the bike)
-
I like that ;D
Currently slightly unimpressed with RE :-\
Andy

The Mash has its oil tank in the same place.
You know, the more I look at the Jawa the more similar the frame & running gear are.....

May I ask why Andy.

Yes, you've let us all hanging Andy, what gives with the Bullit? :-\

The chain broke. I'm in the process of doing a full write up as I think people need to know. The rivet forms on the chain pins are massively variable including some undersize. I found one I could push out with a punch, no hammer required. RE are pointless, they do the concerned PR stuff on twitter but thats as far as it goes.
When it broke it jammed between the sprocket and engine case. No serious damage but meant draining the oil to get the alternator cover off. 60 quid and 3 evenings later I'm up and running again (one huge advantage over the MASH and Jawa:Hitchcocks have 80% of the parts and European made alternatives), but it confirms my belief you need to find the Indian **** before it finds you. Targets over the winter will be the tubes and wheel bearings. The nylon bush in the swingarm is on the watch list.
Its all part of ownership. You get a cheap bike thats lovely to ride but need to allow for extras. I'm rather leading the way on the UCE as they are different to the iron engined bikes, not many get enough miles and half the owners think its 1958 (One old fool in Scarborough spent ten minutes telling me I needed to adjust the points then almost had a heart attack when I said I was keeping the FI and Electronic Ignition. He had 2500 miles on his 1997 bike!). I was hoping the to-do list was shorter (replace the bolts, waterproof the loom etc.) but it is what it is. I was bored of the NC because it was like owning a dishwasher, you can't say that about the Enfield.
That Jawa was tempting but someone needs to get one and find out what parts availability is like and build up the knowledge of what they need doing to them. I like David Angel and know he won't let anyone get stuck, but he's also running a business. The MASH at Haywards was rotting in front of your eyes and their salesman couldn't tell me things like the availability of oil filters (if he had any sense he'd know the Japanese part that could fit). Any volunteers to do a project on the Jawa so we know how to live with it? ;D

Pleased to know that you are still in one piece Andy! :o Nulifies the debate we had earlier on the forum about using split links or rivet links and their relative merits. For an RE, just find the slack pin! :o
I shall remain sceptical about the RE's, even though my local dealer has a nice selection in stock and may forward your findings onto them, if you are OK with that?
Happy spannering and good health, Bill

Depending on how fast I can do graphics and text after my boiled ham, new potatos and third glass of pinot, there will be illustrations on the Hurley-Pugh site later. Please forward to anyone likely to be interested. If I save somone the push home, a cracked engine case or worse it will be mission accomplished.

I'll do that if the forum will pay for it........

Thank you Andy, I'll pass the details on.
The ham and tatties sounds good, although I'm not so sure about the pinot!
My regards, Bill

Really disappointed to hear this Andy, as I'm a bit of an Enfield fan, but that is shocking!
