RIP John Surtees CBE, brought years of pleasure to many and after the racing, the SuperPrix at Brands in the 1990's. Shame he was not Knighted, he surely deserved the Honour. A courteous, straight man, there aren't many of them in racing these days or in his heyday.
Also this day 14 years ago, Barry Sheene MBE another character who brought entertainment to many through the 1970's to the start of the 2000's, RIP.

Didn't realise he'd passed away Bill, yes truly a sad loss to the motoring world in general.
-
aye, sad indeed, his achievement in gaining top honours on both 2 wheels and four will never be bettered. and a travesty that he wasn't knighted, if not for his sporting achievements, then his efforts in the charity sector...
-
Yep, I can't believe he wasnt Sir John Surtees after all his achievements. Pretty disgraceful when you think of some the chronies who do get knighted >:(
-
Thanks, Bill. I remember being told all about his greatness by my uncles. An unbeatable champion. RIP.
