I had a test ride on the standard version a couple of years ago (when they were just under £4,000 OTR). I quite liked it but the thought of it dropping perhaps half that in depreciation over a couple of years put me off.

I am waiting till some used ones come on the market but haven't seen any at all. Maybe their owners love them, or perhaps more likely hardly any are being sold.

Actually, looking at DoT figures there are fewer than 100 actually licensed on the road so looks like the latter.

A place in Bangor over here is selling the Mash bikes and also the new SWM 440 singles.  Both look nice, but like you say, as comparatively cheap as they are, I wouldn't buy new but might be a nice second hand bargain in a couple of years.

Isn't that always the problem with these things. If nobody buys them new, then there aren't any second hand  :-\

On my 2018 shoping list, but Enfield has more support and some resale value and the new crop of 250-400 cc "Adventure" (oh how I hate that term) bikes from the Japanese would be the sensible choice.

Depreciation is just what a dealer will give you. Buy a Hardly with enough shiney bits and a new wardrobe on HP and they'll give you more for the MASH.

Not really, as if you go in without a p-x you'll get a better deal.

The dealer has to get rid of the p-x somehow.

I was down with member XT Will yesterday at his shop Celtic Motorcycles near Milford Haven, seller of Mash, SWM, Enfield, some nice bikes in the range but he didn't have one of these there yet.

The owners forum has put me off somewhat. Surging FI and rotting paintwork may just be internet forum noise, but it reminds me too much of BMW. The knackered lift level of depreciation is a certainty and a 535 Enfield would only be a grand more with (should I choose to trade) greater room for a deal on the Honda. Still on the possibles list though.

Hi

As Mark said I sell Mash, SWM and Royal Enfield at my shop in Pembrokeshire.  I personally have a Von Dutch, great bike. I haven't had a cafe race in yet as just moved to a new showroom and using spare money to kit it out.

I have seen them and they are well made. Some of the surging issues mentioned tended to be on earlier models, this is easily fixed with an ECU upgrade and reset .

I will be on the Continental GT again this year, was going to use the Von Dutch, but the Conti is more well used and kitted with Krauser panniers.
