So, next years annual rally will be at the excellent Foxholes Campsite at Bishops Castle, Shropshire. I have spoken with Chris and Wendy who are more than pleased to host us, and are bike friendly. The dates will be the weekend of 10th June 2017. The campsite has four camping fields, cabins for rent, and a bunkhouse, and is a short walk across a field from the main street of the town, which has at least six pubs, including two breweries. On the Saturday evening we will have a meal together in the Six Bells Pub/Brewery, which although compact and bijou, has assured me they can cater for up to thirty hungry Thumpeteers. There is excellent scope for a rideout on the Saturday, taking in the Shropshire hills and into Wales. I hope this meets with everyone's approval :)
-
Definitely meets with mine. I'll try and persuade No. 1 son.
-
Hi Tim, It certainly meets with my approval ... Count me in ... Six pubs ...... AND two breweries ..!! Regards, Tony

Yep going to put this one in my diary, I'm determined to do my first Thumper Rally next year.

Oops! I appear to have made a large c@@@ up over the date for our annual rally. I am having to change the date to weekend of 3rd of June, which is a week earlier. I hope this doesn't muck things up too much for anyone :-\
This now means it clashes with the TT, but I don't think many of us would be going to that anyway.
-
bugga,
im going to have to use some leave now...if i can get it off.
-
bugga, fully booked off. gona have to try and get a swap :-[
-
I'm really sorry if the date change has b@@@ered people about, but at least you've plenty of notice :-\

When you book via email, Chris or Wendy will email you back with a confirmation. Just pay on arrival for camping, though I think you have to pay a deposit, or in full for electric hook up pitches, or bunkhouse, or chalet ;)

Rossco500 has just informed me that the famous Shelsey Walsh Hillclimb is on saturday 3rd of June, so that is a possibility for our ride out. Its only 40 miles from Bishops Castle, but we could take a longer more circuitous route ;)
-
Whey hey, what a bonus! In spite of living within about 40 miles of Shelsey Walsh all my life, I've never been. I'm deffo up for that.....
-
Well that's me booked for the Friday and Saturday. Looking forward to seeing a few new faces (and old ones!) and sampling a few of the local ales.
-
I hope the fact Rossco has confirmed he's attending, hasn't put the rest of you off ;D
Less than three months to go, so get booking :)
-
I'm Booked !
Jethro

Bl@@dy excellent mate :)

Hi Tim, hope the Shepherds Rest weekend is going well. I am off to Ghana in the next few days and wont be back home until May 29th at the earliest. I am hoping to make the Thumper Club Rally but I won't know until I get back home at the end of May if this is doable. Will message you that week when I get back to let you know if I am able to come & contact the camp site direct to book a pitch. Fingers crossed I will be there. Cheers Cliff
-
Hi Tim,
I've met you once or twice before (I gave you the Dragon's Blood at the Dragon Rally) and you turned up at the MT Riders meet briefly on Saturday where you invited me to this rally.
So I've found this website and the details, I will send off an email to the campsite now!
See you all there,
Stu :D
-
I'm booked in Tim 😀
Mick
-
Friday and Saturday night booked. Looking forward to it!
Simon
-
Hi Sjak, Heb je je campingplaatsen al geboekt? MTF
-
OK fellas, great stuff. Sorry Stu that we didn't stop at MT do, I think we needed a pub a bit closer, as were lazy gits.
So, here's an update. I will be at Foxholes from Thursday, as I need to plan ride out for Saturday. There are two other groups at Foxholes that wknd, one, a group of cyclists, the other, a group of Ukulele players :-\ So, if you have a musical bent, bring your didgereedo etc ;)
Shelsey Walsh is £8 on the Saturday when we call in, and £16 on the Sunday, so I guess we are there for practice and qualifying. Bishops Castle has six pubs on the main street, two brewerys, an Indian, a chippy, a petrol station, a Co-op, a Spar, and a couple of cafs, so were all sorted. Food in the Six Bells is £7.50 for a main course, and we will all eat there together on sat evening, 7.30ish.
If you can, please book with campsite. If your not sure, just turn up. All welcome :)
-
Too far away for me, but I'll look forward to hearing how it all goes and will be there in spirit.
-
Yippee, shifts have moved so I can come to the rally. Now who do I tell and how do I pay?
-
Hi Richard. Book with Foxholes online, or email, or phone, and mention Thumper Club. Pay cash on arrival at the house to Chris or Wendy :)

-
No worries Keith, and apologies about the date change.
-
:-[...I won't be there, I'm sorry...3 weeks Tuscany Italy will be the place for me.
I hope next year with as much as Dutch people as I can mobilize.
Kind regards
Sjak
-
No problem Sjak, enjoy Tuscany :)
-
If I can get the weekend off, I will be there late Friday night or first thing Saturday morning.
-
I do believe that Steve (aka Steffan) will be there on the Friday night now.
Richard
-
Excellent. Looks like 25 to 30 bods probably, which is plenty :)
-
Hi, take me off the list now, sorry. My beautiful Fiancé has chosen that weekend to fly to Florida with her Mum so I'll be on dropping off duty. Have fun!
-
Sadly Steve has also had to cancel. Shame, but still plenty coming.
-
Fast ferry booked from Dublin on Thursday afternoon, so myself and Rossco500 should arrive on Thursday evening :)
-
I'm hoping to get there Thursday evening too, straight from work, so depending on rush hour traffic should be there about 7.30...
-
Update. There are two camping fields at Foxholes, one huge one, and then the smaller half acre field. Ideally we would use the half acre field for our group, but it can't be booked in advance. So what I suggest, is that whoever gets there first, claims it for us if its empty. However, if its not, we'll pitch up in the main field, and I recommend next to the bottom hedge line immediately on your right, as you come through the entrance, as this is handiest for all the facilities. Myself and Rossco500 won't be their until around 9pm on the Thursday evening.
I have provisionally planned a route for Saturdays ride out to Shelsey Walsh. We'll leave the petrol station on the main street of Bishops Castle at 10am, and arrive at Shelsey Walsh before 12 noon. Gate entrance is £10, (its £20 on the Sunday), and we'll leave to head back to the site around 4pm, to make it back to the site before 6. Then, at 7.30 pm we'll sit down together for a meal at the Six Bells, at the bottom of the main street, for a bit of craic and lashings of ginger beer ;)
-
OK Tim, I'll bear that in mind if I'm first there. I'll probably just hang around the site for an hour or so whilst I struggle with the tent, fill the water carrier etc. etc. but if hunger (or thirst!) drive me into town, I'll leave a note on the bike (silver F650) to say where I've gone. Oh, and if my glazed expression and bug spattered face isn't enough for recognition purposes, I'll try to remember to wear my Thumper Club T shirt ;D
-
I've been having a pig of a time ordering and fitting a GPS speedometer for my Skorpion so I am road legal in time for the meet. Damned thing failed a couple of days ago and guess what - replacements aren't available.
I'll be there.
Richard
-
Have a safe and enjoyable journey everyone. And for those that can't make it, maybe next time ;)
-
We're in the tent field. The half acre is full of ankle biters.
-
I have just got in from work ,I hadn't booked a pitch as I was not sure when I would be coming across,Rang the site to book and was told I should have booked earlier as they are now full,Grovelled a bit and she let me email and book ... phew :-[ lesson learned. Will arrive sometime tomorrow early evening (I hope)....It looks like 3 hrs + in the rain (according to my wife the weather guru) :( :( :(
-
have a good weekend lads safe biking tommy
-
Sorry Tim. I have not got my finger on the pulse at the moment and regrettably I wont be there this weekend. I apologise that I have not let you know earlier. I hope all you guys have a great weekend and the weather gods are kind to you. I have to go into hospital next week for an operation on my left foot which will lay me up for 6 to 8 weeks hence the reason I cant make it this weekend as too much to sort before my hospital date. Cheers Cliff (BradXT)
-
Well that was fun.
Thanks to everybody who helped organise it, and everybody who was there. Shropshire really is a beautiful County.
Got a bit soggy on the way home but not too much.
-
.......Well that was fun.........
The same from me & Pat...the token woman.
We had a reasonable run back (road closure before Welshpool), parked up the camper and went to the VMCC BBQ at Llangollen on the DR750 BSA lookalike, then back to a friends house for tea & biscuits....a pleasant weekend....thanks Tim.
looking forward to the next meet.
Dave.
-
Yes, fantastic weekend, really enjoyed it and great to meet everybody. Thanks to Tim and anyone else involved in organising it. :)
-
I thoroughly enjoyed meeting you all and had a great weekend of proper motorcycling. Thanks Tim for organising such a fun rally. With the visits to Pentre Garage and Shelsley Walsh the weekend was petrolhead heaven.
Did the dog ever turn up?
Ian
-
Yes, we heard on the grapevine that the dog had been found, and is now, I believe, an honorary Thumper Club member. ;D

Great weekend - thanks to Tim and anyone else who helped to get it sorted !
-
Yes, another great weekend. I thoroughly enjoyed all of it, in fact maybe a bit too much, as on the way down to Swansea on Sunday with Mark, Ifor, and Michael, I had to pull off the road for a bit, as I was nodding off on the bike! Spent the afternoon asleep on the beach at Caswell Bay, in the sunshine, in all my bike gear, much to the disgust of my sister, and amusement of all the surfers :-\
Great to meet everyone, we had 25 people altogether, the other three Irish lads got home safe and mainly dry on Sunday night :)
From tomorrow I have the delights of Dorset to look forward too, with the 40th Anniversary Rally of the REOC at the weekend.
-
Great weekend as usual (apart from Friday spent in the tent with some sort of 24hr bug).
Back home at 10pm. Weather looked iffy when I left Bishop's Castle at 11.15 but soon turned bright and sunny so a pleasant leisurely run westward. Had a police bike sitting on my tail for a couple of miles on the A470 near Dinas Mawddwy - he was probably recording me for one of their "lines not to take through a bend" training sessions! Then he got bored and took off at a fair rate of knots looking for power rangers to book.
Docked in Dublin at 7.30 then the boring run up to Antrim with a couple stops to stretch the legs. 250 miles from the site.
Good to meet up with everyone and see a few new faces - thanks to Pat and Chris for the medical assistance on Friday and Timbo for organising.
Until the next one
Woof woof!
