hi guys i would like to fit oxford heated grips on my 650 dominator ,im sure the charging system can cope with this, but has anyone got them on there dommie and have they had and problem thanks tommy
-
Morning Tommy, don't av them on a "dommie" but had them on the last three speed triples I've owned without any problems whatsoever. I would highly recommend them, let's face it winters only round the corner eh... :( :( :(....cheers, Michael

Oh no, it must be nearly winter - the first heated grips thread!
(I may try them myself this year - I must be getting soft in my old age....)
-
Heated gloves are another option....
I always find heated grips make my palms uncomfortably hot leaving the backs of my hands cold. Guards as fitted to Triumph Tigers and the like help.

Heated grips are good.
Heated grips and handguards are better.
Heated grips, handguards and muffs are very heaven.

Hi Tommy. So last year, I fitted a set of DIY heated grips, onto my Honda CB500. They cost around a £5, and worked great, especially with muffs, as mentioned above. That bike is long sold now, but I ordered another three pairs of same grips, from China, for the grand total of £7.50. I fitted two pairs, one to the Dommie, the other to the Enfield. No joy, Nada! So I guess, its time to investigate, as the weather is turning ;)

I think the key word I your last post Tim was "CHINA"......investigation over.. ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;).
The Oxford sets I had on my speedy's worked every time no problem and I had each pair (3 in total) on each bike for approximately three years.....cheers, Michael

I bought a 600 Faser a while ago (sold now) which had DIY heated grips fitted. I don`t usually ride in the winter months but the day I picked it up it was icey and snowy, they were a god-send and if I rode all year round they`d be certainly fitted ... they`re ace (imo) ;)

Yes Michael, the words, "buyer beware" are still ringing in my ears :)

From the frying pan into the fire :-\ Just ordered a pair of these, eBay 161986814922

have them on my Aprilia pegaso strada with hand guards as well work fine nice warm hands all year round came with the bike not wired into a switched supply that's my only complaint as they quickly flatten the battery if you forget to turn off :D
-
ive got them on my beemer. they come as standard. when youve never had them you see them as a bit of a gimmick, when youve got them on a bike and get into using them, you realise that theyre essential and cant imagine not having them on a bike.
-
thanks lads for the advice i think i will be putting some heated grips on the dommie this winter ,
a friend of mine said the exact thing johnr said once you had them on the bike you cant imagine not having them let ya know how it goes cheers tommy

If you can afford it, a heated waistcoat may be the way to go - my Aerostich one going strong after ten years, one jacket does multiple bikes, and I think it's the cure for cold hands, combined with those long sports tops that go over yr wrists and have thumb loops (best one is Rab's Powerstretch half zip, amazing bit of kit, fits under other layers). Warm body means spare heat left over to go to hands.
Heated grips are nice, need hbar muffs to get the most from them IMHO.
-
I use the "Scooter" oxford heated grips - only two heat settings - warm and not so warm, but a nice reliable and compact switch and are cheaper and have less current draw than the posher oxford grips.
-
I used to get sets from New Zealand, designed for quad bikes, that went inside the handlebar. Excellent bit of kit, but I haven't seen them advertised for a few years now.
They didn;t work with bar end mirrors, and like all heated grips not all grip glues liked them.

Here here! As good as it gets.

The best ones I've used are Daytona heated grips. Nice small switch, 4 heat settings and properly toasty.
Apparently the switch is the weak link on the Oxford grips, plus it's really big and fugly!

Wuss.
Just stop for a coffee when your hands get cold.

Why stop there, just piss on them ::)

But I might not be there.

Agreed. I prefer fugly gloves - very Trekkie!

Been known to wear the two fingered pathan gloves too. Lovely, but not a patch on the muff/heated grip combination.

So here's the grips I fitted to my enfield. They only cost £3.99 including postage, and were probably in one of the shipping containers, Guy Martin was looking at, at Shanghai Port ;)
Just looked online, and the cheapest I can find, same or similar, are £7.09. you need to put in, '7/8" Motorcycle Electric Hot Heated Molded Grips Handlebar Warmer'
And fitted the best pair of muffs ive ever come across, and picked up from a fellow club member for a tenner. They are marked 'Ryde Shield'

Great info here, thanks timbo. The small, integrated switch is the best design I've seen. And £3.99!!! Might have a punt at £7.09, but only if I can get the same design.

I know its now the wrong time of year for these, but i was so impressed with these heated grips over the winter, that I've just ordered another three pairs. Current price is £8.88 a pair, including postage, and eBay number is 322307858891 ;)

I bought a heated jacket/ glove combo a few months back. The difference from grips is amazing, far more effective as you heat the core and the back of the hand/arm. Not £4.99 though.

I never had them, I rely on good gloves with good insulation underneath. My bosses diesel engined superdream 400 has heated grips, his hands get colder than mine even though he doesn't ride when it's really cold. I have been thinking about some protection from the wind chill though, maybe when the winter gets here this year.
