Title: HONDA XR400
Post by: xbally on August 23, 2016, 07:01:16 PM
Anyone know anything about these.....?Looking for a more powerful thumper than my RS250 and thought one might fit the bill.

The XR400 is the workhorse of many ranches and national park ranger services in South America. Light, nimble, pokey, easy to service, durable, not a lot of fancy plastic or liquid cooling.  ;D  Only potential downside is the length of your inside leg measurement, but having watched some quite short Chileans using them, that wasn't a problem!  ;)  The technique of deploying the sidestand, whilst coming to a halt and then sliding off, like dismounting from a criollo (gaucho's horse). Whether this is practical in our more 'urban' situation I shall leave open to debate. Visions of roping wayward jay walkers, or cyclists, with a riata; or entangling their legs, with a bolas can get too vivid!  ::) ;D :-X

Buenas noches, Guillermo

I'm liking the sound of this...just looking for a light slightly more modern (preferably)air cooled four stroke thumper with a bit more get up and go.I'm a big hill climb fan and these sound ideal for tackling a (tarmac) hill.

I think this wee YouTube clip is a good demo of an XR400 abilities at hill climbing!  ;)

I understand that you intend to use it on tarmac climbs, but it appears to have the bottom end torque you desire. XR600 or XR650 has more!  ;)

My regards, Bill

Maybe you would like my SLR650? Although now I've sorted out the rear shock and taken the screen off it I'm wondering why I want to move it on.......

I'm in Brum if you fancy a look / ride.
