Does anyone have any direct experience of Harley Davidson ss350 ? the later 4 stroke, 5 speed 1973/4 version ?
-
No sorry spooky, but I`d love to own one!!!!!
-
It has always been my ambition to own one of the 2 stroke ' Harleys' just so that I can turn up at a HOG rally ( they have one near here most years) and be able to say, "well it says Harley Davidson on the tank!".
I know they are basically re-badged Cagiva's but otherwise I can't really help.
-
Excuse my ignorance, is this the Aermacchi 350 you're referring to?
-
I think spooky is but the bike Steve is referring to is one of these I think....
AMF Harley Davidson SX250

Also came as a 125 and 350.....imagine turning up at a HOG rally on a 125 version of this......magic! ;D

WHOOPS!! in my enthusiasm I think I got the wrong bike!!....still want one though. ;D
......I'll get my coat....... :-[ :-[
-
I`ll probably get shot for this but I`m going to say it anyway .........
I like ALL Harley`s and would like another after owning three in the past .... I`d even be tempted to swap the GB for the right one ........
I`ll join you Steve, my coat is on too .......
-
i got my first sportser in 1982 and had nothing but harleys until 5 years ago, i like all two wheelers me. i did have a cagiva sst350 for a while a couple of years ago, two stroke single , very torquey and vibrated like a vibratey thing...
-
Ah, I get it now ;)
I've never owned a Harley, but it doesn't mean I don't like them, I just don't want yet another bike interest, as I've too much going on already. Bit like I've never owned a Beamer either :-\

I`d even be tempted to swap the GB for the right one .........................but for THAT I'm afraid we'd have to take you out behind the chemical sheds >:( ( ;))

I've always had a bit of a left field preference of bikes. ( oddball). I've never been a fan of Japanese bikes generally, though I do like their singles of which I've owned quite a few , TS, SP DR GN and of course the XBR which was a bike I always wanted to get from the day it was launched but couldn't afford one till 15 years later. Jap twins and multis just don't interest me.
Also owned a Lambretta ( I'm better now but it was very cheap), 3 MZ's, 2 Cossacks - one of which may be reappearing soon - watch the projects page!, 2 BMW's a 450 &1000 and a few other odds & ends.
Always fancied a Guzzi or Morini but never a Ducati. Quite fancied a Brit bike but never a Harley.
-
I know where you`re coming from Steve, I like things that are "different". I`ve had a couple of Brits, a Triumph TR7 Tiger and a B40 BSA, I liked them both but always liked the Harley`s. As you probably know I`ve got a very rough MZ ES250/2 Trophy needing a major resto, but it`s so ugly I love it :)
I`m taking delivery of my latest project / toy next week. It`s different, ugly, rusty (patina) but sounds well .... a late 80`s early 90`s 350 Jawa. Sadly though, I need room in my garage so I`ve put my Skorp up for sale locally :( Hang on, getting rid of my Skorp to replace it with a two stroke Jawa ??? ??? ???

It made a big impression on 'Bike' magazine when thry tried it, the quote was something like " ...it has the worst brakes of any motorcycle we've ever tested..." you've gotta love it just for that!
Again, not mine but...

Its a Kalashnikov !
-
No it's not!! ;D
( Actually on checking I'm not entirely sure it is IZH....but it's made in the ZID factory at Kovrov... it's so damn obscure even I'm not sure! :-\)
It's name means 'Sunrise' in Russian.
-
Right, that's me out of ideas :-\
Though there is a link between IZH and Kalashnikov n'est pas?
-
IZH made the Planeta and the Kalashnikov was basically an updated version of the Planeta.
OK, I think I've keep you all guessing long enough so........

Viktor the Vosky is coming home! ( currently residing with Big Bro in Nottingham, picking him up later in the year all being well!! ;D ;D ;D)
( not the one in the photo but almost as good)
-
What a lovely looking little bike ;) Is that the actual one? Looks in nice nick ..... 8)
-
No, mine is the same colour and in similar condition except for the chromework which is a bit knackered ...they all did it.
-
Nice one, look forward to seeing pictures of it ;)
-
Brilliant! I can't believe I didn't guess it, as Voschkod isn't that obscure, is it?
-
Not many around now. They didn't sell well as they were too big for learners and not really worth it if you passed your test. I think they look great in a classic sort of way. Like a lot of Soviet stuff I think they are well ( if crudely) engineered but badly put together. Plan is to strip it right down and re lube everything and replace all bearings etc, try and sort the brakes with new linings and playing with the brake mechanics and basically turn it into a reliable machine. It'll certainly baffle a few of the rivit counters at the local classic shows!
-
I have some origina brochures from when they were new, another bike i always wanted (why ?) there are a few around me , waiting for a black one to get dragged out of the shed so i can go and have a look and there is a brand new unused one hung on a wall in a pub not far away, me, i love weird bikes !!
-
I like 'em,... quirky.
Sorry Spooky I seem to have hijack your original thread :-[
When i get it I'll start a project thread to keep all those interested posted - there is a really interesting story behind it.
-
hopefully my original thread will have some substance tomorrow, wts
-
There is a guy over here, who rides a 1973 Aermachii as his everyday transport, to work etc. I've bumped into him a few times and had a good chat about the bike :)
-
GOT IT !!!!!!!!!! ;D
photos soon
-
Excellent work :)
-
Nice one spooky, look forward to seeing the pic`s ..... and if you ever want to sell ??? ;)
-
