Title: Tank Bags
Post by: Richard on April 14, 2016, 04:09:03 PM
My trusty old Tank Bag has died.

I'm looking for a new one mainly to fit my Skorpion Sport (with plastic tank) but also the two strokes and others with metal tanks.

This one has been recommended:

My local bike shop doesn't have anything that fits.

Recommendations please.

Looks good Richard. If you're not fussy, there's always cheap second hand ones on Gumtree and eBay, but i think you are maybe looking for something particular  ;)

Aye Richard,

Used to use an Oxford tank bag (two tier type) on the Skorpion, no problems with it fitting and the waterproof cover that comes with the bag works. As the magnets don't 'work' make sure that the rear strap is set up firm and yet not trapping anything underneath the tank.

The bag in the ad. looks fine, but we have bought succesfully from Fleabay, both new and used Oxford bags. All the best.
My regards, Bill

I have two of the Oxford first time tankbags.A magnetic one for the CB500 and a strap on one for the Tiger. They are a good basic tankbag and, importantly for a tightwad like me,available fairly cheaply. The strap on one hasnt been used for a couple of years,I would sell it if you are interested.

I had a look at the First Time range and didn't think they would last me long to be honest.

Now the Lifetime range is another matter, but don't seem to fit.

Lidl should be having their motorbike gear promotion very soon.I am perfectly happy with the Lidl tank bag I bought several years ago.

I'm not sure I'd trust their helmets, but  the other stuff is suprisingly good. I bought some of their textile over trousers some years ago, about £35 at the time and they are still going strong! Only thing is after really heavy rain while they stay completely waterproof they feel cold & clammy - a  bit like the old waxed cotton Belstaff gear.

There was a story in the MZ magazine years ago about someone who bought one of their heavy duty motorbike lock & chains -really cheap at the time, I forget the circumstances but basically he'd locked it up to something and lost the key and various attempts to cut the chain failed including HD bolt croppers, ended up having to get the fire brigade with their hydraulic croppers to cut it!!....this isn't a recommendation though!!

Had the Lidl one but it was magnetic, with only a weak strap.  It worked but would shift around the tank a bit.  Now its dead anyway.

I wear a Lidl, or Aldi, can't remember, waterproof jacket that does okay.  Survived a crash with only a bit of glue afterwards.

I don't knock their kit.  Aldi leather jackets during the recent bike promo looked good.

Anyway I have now bought a Louis tank bag from Germany with some solid straps and magnetic base for the metal tanked bikes too.

I'll see how I get on with it.

They must have stuck your head back on the wrong way round.

They are good - I bought one. Lovely thick leather and CE armour for £99.99. Bargain.
