Title: Motoinno TS3 for discussion!
Post by: themoudie on March 24, 2016, 10:56:39 PM
Good evening to you All,

This should get the head scratching, beard grooming and MechEng boffins 'going' for a wee while!  ;D

Look out for it in Moto2 later in the year, if all goes well for the team.

Motoinno TS3 (http://www.gizmag.com/motoinno-ts3-motorcycle-suspension-steering-moto2/42378/)

Bush engineering at its best!  ;D

My regards, Bill

it sounds fab, but the problem is, they always sound fab. the telescopic fork has been killed off more times than doctor who, leading links, elf front ends, telelever yamaha, honda, defazio, theeeyve all been the future, the replacement for tele forks, and yet, they arent. no matter how much funky billet they hang on there, when they test it back to back with the standard telescopics, the teles win every time, and by a considerable margin. i have to say, having ridden with teles, rwu and usd, leading links, trailing links, girders, and telelever, that the bmw system fitted to their boxers is perhaps the closest to beating the norm of telescopic forks. they feel quite unlike anything ive ever ridden, certainly better than tele forks, but even thats not enough, bmw themselves have reverted back to 'normal' tele forks in their latest bikes. so, we shall see if theyre ever going to go anywhere, or if theyre destined to be consigned to the long list of nearly but not quite good enough.

Good post Bill.

I think the system looks cool. Anything with carved ally sideplates gets the thumbs up from me.  ;D

At the end of the day I'd still class it as a hub centre device, albeit an ingenious version. I agree with a lot of what johnr says, but I hope they manage to get on the moto2 grid. Variety is the spice of life, though whether they will win any trophies.... most likely not.

and the additional problem they will have is that there are already so many variables in such a competetive format, so a 'funny front end' might just be a variable too far. i love the technology, but ive a suspician that it will sink like a stone if its not spectacularly successful straight away. pressure from sponsors for results will more than likely be as important as technological development.

Never mind the suspension, did you read the article on the same link, for the army's new side loading 40mm cannon, which replaces the Rarden after fifty years  ;)
