Oh you'll pay ;D ;D ;D

Just thinking, with the GB coming from the Netherlands, the headlamp will dip the wrong way. I`m guessing any headlamp the correct diameter would fit?? :-\ Also, does anyone know where I could get correct NOS mirrors for it? Thanks ;)
-
Congratulations Steve :) You were obviously determined to get one.
-
Oh dear Steve, bet it seemed like a good idea at the time eh! But then again so did marriage :) :)
I suppose if you keep telling her indoors while she's asleep it'd be like a subliminal message and she may just wake up one morning and think the bikes always been there ;) :)
Ps....if you need a genuine XBR headlight lens (I assume they're the same??) I think I have one, just let me know...cheers, Michael
Pps....oh and well done on your GB purchase, photos please when you get a min
-
Thanks fella`s, and thanks for the offer of an XBR lense Michael ... I may just need it ;) I`ve got loads of pictures but here`s one for ya`s ....... ;D
-
Yep, that is fn gorgeous. Look forward to seeing it on the island, end of August :)
-
Yes indeedy, very nice Steve. Well done that man
-
OH very nice!.....Just have to explain it to the wife now!!....beware of browsing for bikes on the internet! I am officially jealous!!
You can get XBR headlights for £25 from David Silver.
Now, let me tell you 'new' boys a cautionary tale........
Once upon a time there was a member of this very club ( not me) who while searching the Evilbay found a poor unloved GB500. The GB was cursed with the most godawfully ugly fairing and King & Queen seat ever seen by man (the ugly sisters?) and so was going very cheap (£900ish).
Our bold hero felt sorry for the poor GB and thought it deserved a better life and so, even though he couldn't really afford it and didn't really want it, he put on the £900 starting bid 'just to get the auction going'
However, the curse of ugliness that had been put upon it was very strong and so imagine his horror as , day by day, no-one else felt sorry for the poor GB and his was the only bid.
Imagine if you will the strange squirming feeling deep in his bowels and the final hours ticked by, still with no other bids, as he realised that A) he was going to win it B) He really couldn't afford it and ......C) HE WOULD HAVE TO TELL HIS WIFE!!
And so it came to pass that he did indeed win the poor GB and he had to send his mate to collect it so he could hide it until he found the appropriate moment to tell his dearly beloved.
And so a warning....beware of browsing for bikes on the web and never ever bid on a poor ugly GB you really can't afford even if it is cheap.
There is a happy (ish) end to our story as he managed to sell the ugly sisters and the GB at a profit but probably not before he had suffered the death of a thousend whinges!!
-
;D ;D Great story Steve, bit of a bargain by the sounds of things, those king and queen seats must be worth about .... £20? ;D Sadly, the one I`ve just bought was a bit dearer than that but I wonder if the K&Q seat is available for sale, I may look into that!! On a more positive not, there`s been no moaning from my better half...yet, just a few rolls of the eyes :o May be the calm before the storm, especially when she asks the dreaded..."how much was it?" She`s only questioned the shipping cost up `til now ???
-
Here you are. I wasn`t going to show you this because you will see the price of it and don`t know if I can take the abuse :-\ Some will think it`s silly money, others will think it`s a good deal? It is after all an XBR in a fancy suit. I think it`s a good deal hence my purchase. It`s in a dealers who sold it new to the one previous owner. It has done just under 3000 miles, and I think it was stored in the owners living room? We`ve all seen the one in Wales for sale at £6500 and to be fair, when these things appear for sale they seem to be good money (just making myself feel better here) One sold at Bonhams for 9200 :o ??? ........ here goes, be kind ;) .......
-
Abuse, abuse, abuse, abuse......
.....actually when you convert it, it's not a bad price for a near as damnit new GB.....even if it is just an XBR in an Armani suit & boots ! ;)
But PLEASE use it ...I'll let you off only using it on nice days... but just ride it and enjoy it.
-
Aye Steve,
Thank you for the PM, I have passed on the info.
As for the GB, it has to be ridden and it's all in the eye of the beholder! ::) :-X
My regards, Bill

Here, here.....I have To go with steveC#222 on this one. Corking looking mosheen but yeah got to be ridden. I once remember reading an article with the late great enzo Ferrari, in which he said his cars shud be driven like they were designed...with passion. He went on to say, they were not designed to be stared at in some museum but driven...with passion.
Enjoy it Steve it certainly looks a corker. Oh and keep the subliminal messaging going with her indoors, clearly already starting to pay off if all she does is "dry her teeth" from time to time :) :)..cheers, Michael
-
Fantastic looking bike, enjoy...
-
This is one GB which will be used, only on dry days though ;D It will not be a house ornament. I`ve been trying to make some space this morning in the garage as I did say to the wife about storing it in the house between use, she was awake when I mentioned it, and the reply was "........off!" :o So, the Fazer sold this morning (collecting it on Tuesday) and I may even sell my two SP`s to my mate because I know he`ll get them on the road and give me first refusal if he was selling them again. Cheers, Steve. ;)
-
Steve, tell your Mrs that I've eight bikes in my living room, and none of them are anywhere close to being as gorgeous or valuable as your GB ;)
Alternatively, send it over here, and I'll find space in the house for it somewhere ;)

Ha ha ha.....I like your style Tim. Excellent stuff 8) 8)
-
I also reckon that when you convert from euros Steve, you've got a great bike for the money. I mean it is a practically new GB. Great that its now owned by one of us lot 8)
-
Thanks for that ;D I think it`s realistic money for one of those, just hope it`s as good as it looks :-\ That`s the trouble buying blind. Apart from the one in Wales for sale at the moment, the last one I saw funnily enough was over in Ireland about a year ago for 5k...which was a Manx bike from new! Would have been nice to bring it back but I dragged my heels on it and it sold.

If you need the workshop manual you can find it here

Newbie here requesting permission to seethe with jealousy...
Problem I have is I`ve bought blind, a quick chat with the salesman and a look at the photo`s and said I`d have it :-\ I`m just hoping it`ll turn up and be as good as it looks :-\ Cheers.
-
Oh, right. I find myself struggling to put the seething on hold though! Good luck!
-
Newbie here requesting permission to seethe with jealousy...
I'm sorry but as club newbie you'll have to take your place at the end of the seething jealous queue!!...some of us have jealously seething since he got it the jammy $^^%$£"&&( !! ;)
-
I'll no be seething over the wee beastie. :o
I am pleased Steve has his "baby" and I hope he enjoys it. But, I'd just get it grubby and the road salt up here would start to attack it! :( I'll stick with my "oily rag" jobs and repair and refurbish as necessary. ;)
Enjoy your lusts, and bikes, but please keep riding them! ;D
My regards, Bill

Just thinking ahead?? (now now :o) On the left hand side of the GB`s motor is the foo foo valve, air pump, anti smog device, whatever? reading about them lots of people remove them because they say the engine goes better without them? Does anyone know the exact way these things work (I know it introduces fresh air into the cylinder and turns any CO into CO2) Would you remove or leave alone?? Cheers.
-
I'd take it off - it cuts down on power & pick up. You can buy the blanking plates.
This shows how to do it on the XR650 which I imagine is much the same.
http://www.4strokes.com/technical/honda/xr650l/smog-removal1/ (http://www.4strokes.com/technical/honda/xr650l/smog-removal1/)
These are the blanking plates but you could probably make your own.

Search for www.xbr.de in google and when it finds it click the translate option. On the list on the left click techntest then go down that list to the 14th listing " secondary air system to eliminate the GB" and it shows you how.
-
Thanks for that Steve, I was thinking the same to be honest. Great links, cheers ;)
-
The one on the Bonneville was just a ball/flap and spring type non return valve that let it suck fresh air into the exhaust to water down what was going up the chimney. It was a good idea to remove them as they prevent access to the plugs. Apart from that I could see no reason not to leave them alone. They didn't make the exhaust leak or change the downstream pressure or weigh more than your breakfast or change the inlet mixture or use more power than charging your phone, so access aside just another aftermarket bit to talk about on the Web. The fresh air may have even cooled the header pipe and slowed the blueing so hated by the bike polishers.
