My friends are retiring to France, so I spent a couple of hours helping them clear their garage, I came across a Yamaha XV535 that has just been sat in there for 8 years asked how much to take it off their hands £200, Im now the owner, its fairly corroded and rusty but im sure I can get it in saleable condition and make a bit of cash out of it

Result!!! Not bad bikes them, I had one years ago and took my test on it....just before the 125 law came in over here. They make quite a good café racer ;)
-
Yeah, I ran one for a while. Quite pleasant, but let down by dodgy 'cruiser' handling and silly little fuel tank......
-
The 535 Virago always had a good reputation for reliability. Not exactly something us thumpeteers would lust after, but at £200! As they say here, "you couldnt walk past it", at that price ;)
Congratulations.

id be interested in that when youre ready to sell it. my daughters boyfriend is hoping to take his test this year, and im hopint that if i can dangle the prospect of a little custom bike it might encourage him to get his finger out and get it passed (hes been riding round on his 125 for ever!)

Blimey, that's quick! Well done that man. :)

tht caff racer one has a passing look of a morini with the 90 degree vee set like that. lovely thing.
-
Yes...I also am liking the general look of the little cafe racer, just shows what can be done with a humble little xv535
Yes quick work joolz, you going to restore back to original or "chop it up a touch"?
Cheers..Michael
-
I will restore it to close to original, maybe a little customisation and a paint job
-
You're certainly not letting the grass grow ;) Just don't spend too much on it as you'll lose all your profit, and I reckon standard is best for resale value.

It really needs a respray, so I may as well pretty it up a bit, it wont take up much more of my time
