Title: Dragon Rally 2016
Post by: steveD on October 19, 2015, 07:23:54 PM
So, it's that time of year again and some of us are mailing off for our tickets. I know that some will probably go to the Bruce Pollard event on the Friday evening and some will be going to the Rally site.
As last year was a good craic at the 'bunkhouse', I am suggesting that we use it again. Anybody else interested and I'll get on the blower and see if it's available.

The next few days would be good! :o

Cheers Steve

As if I'm the only snorer!

We've had lots of fun there the last two years (including being thrown out of a pub), so I'm really pleased we're going back.

Count me in  :)

Thanks for booking it Steve

Where have you been GC, very quiet for a while.?

Irrespective, I have booked the 10 bunks for the Friday evening and will fill them if the Thumper club lads don't want them.
I will leave things as they are for the moment but after a few weeks I will advertise on either the ABR (Adventure Bike Rider) forum or the HUBB (Horizons Unlimited)
I don't want either Sam or myself to be out of pocket. I did mention that if we had one or two more bodies would we be able to shoehorn them in somewhere. She did mention that we could have a Bell tent which would make it easier and not have to pitch our own tents.

Just so ya know

Cheers Steve

Hi Guys

I've just sent off for my ticket, so if I'm successful (apparently they are 3/4 sold out) may I book a bed in the bunkhouse? I can confirm when I know I have a ticket.

Thanks for sorting this again Steve; really appreciate it. I've really enjoyed my visits to Llanfairfechan the last couple of years!

A recent conversation raised some confusion over the number of pubs in the village. We'll have to re-visit all the pubs again next year to make sure we haven't missed any!

Yes exactly my thoughts Simon, we should get around all of the pubs , just to make sure all is well and I'm pretty sure that we still haven't been into one of them!.......................Anyhow it would be rude not to! ::)

Steve Foy and I may well be up for a couple of places in the bunkhouse if still available.

Yeah that's only because they cannot spell 'Puffs' :o

(Mine arrived yesterday. ;D)

Obviously you will have to get a ferry booked but if you want to meet up earlier or stay a day later, then I'm up for it! :)

Mine arrived yesterday so if there's a space in the bunkhouse I'd be interested. If not cos you need them for further travelled club members then that's ok I will come up on Saturday from Nottingham.

Smithy, If you are a definate then just cut and paste your name into the list and repost. That will still leave two spaces left to fill. Even if we get a couple more I'm sure we can all fit in. I do not have a problem sleeping on the floor or even camping.....................or sleeping in one of the out buildings! :o

Apparently the infamous bad pub of Llanfairfechan is no more so we wont be able to reprise our bizarre ejection from the premises.

Plenty more drinking options though

That's a really nice offer and I would like to take you up on that. Would you be kind enough to let me know where in Swallow Falls you are stopping so I can book a place.

SteveD thanks for the offer but as you see I will be staying in Swallow Falls.

What a friendly bunch you all are.

It's getting towards that time of year when the second envelope drops on the doormat containing final destructions on how to get to the check-in, leading to speculation on where the site will be.  There's no clues on Conwy & District MCC's website.
Hints anyone?

Update Wed. 20.1.16:
Details arrived.
Check in is near to the previously often used waterworks site around which Afon Llugwy runs (can't give away too much detail on the interweb to whoever it is that CDMCC are trying to exclude) so the rally won't be too far from there.  It will be at a well established holiday camp site which has a pavilion.  No fires are allowed.  The search commences...

If there's a pavilion then there must be on-site loos, so it should be possible to go for a pony in relative comfort.

I wonder if it might be the site at Ogwen Bank, just East of Bethesda?

As was I, or at least not a campsite.  Still, can't be that bad near Capel Curig can it ?
Title: Re: Dragon Rally 2016
Post by: Richard on January 20, 2016, 05:03:25 PM
Saying which I can think of two damned good Dragons at campsites in that area.  And at least if its a proper campsite we shouldn't drown in our bivi bags.
Title: Re: Dragon Rally 2016
Post by: guest1445 on January 21, 2016, 10:55:10 AM
The final destructions also state that last year's was a 'back to basics' event (I didn't go :( )  Does that mean that they've reinstated the communal bonfire? (fingers crossed)

I like remote sites too but loo facilities which, let's face it, generally only get used for a dump (and for other porpoises by the small proportion of women who attend), often tend to be a bit lacking.
Title: Re: Dragon Rally 2016
Post by: Richard on January 21, 2016, 08:42:14 PM
No bonfire, but I can't remember the toilets - so they can't have been that bad can they ...................

Actually now I think about it they had lots of portaloos, more than usual and they were fine.  Mine even had paper.

Cheers Tim, but since I don't have a Guzzi sidecar any more, just a BMW, and it is outnumbered by three solo Guzzis and a Honda now I thought a name change was in order.

In the past I have organised breakfast at a small cafe just next to the entrance to the campsite. I can recommend the food there and if others want to get food before we trot off to find the 'caravan' I will get in touch with the owners and make sure that they know that we will be coming.
Food is excellent and prices reasonable.

Some feedback required peoples.

I still reckon the site will be at Ogwen Bank.
Title: Re: Dragon Rally 2016

Mike, the reason that we use Platts Farm is that there is and excellent bunkhouse / campsite and it is convenient for the lads coming over from Ireland. We can meet up on the Friday evening, have a few beers. If the weather is inclement we don't have to pitch tents. We can then get a leisurely breakfast within a few feet of the entrance to the 'Farm' and then pack up and get to the rally check point.
We are using the same place for the Thumper Club rally this year as well.
Some of us are going over to the Irish meet as well, we will use the bunkhouse again on a Thursday evening as we can all meet up there and then get the early morning (Friday) Ferry from Holyhead over to the Emerald Isle.

Hope this clears things up.

Cheers SteveD

Thanks Steve

Yes, I know of the Platts Farm and the bunkhouse, I just haven't been there yet although I'm aware that it's a popular pre-Dragon meet-up place.  Mebbe one day I'll be there, but I usually spend the Friday night imposing on local friends.  Thumperclub Rally is a temptation - if I can get one back on the road by then.

See you all on Saturday.

Regards,

Mike S

Current prediction by the met. office for Capel Curig is sleet on Saturday morning followed by light snow until Sunday morning, then cloudy/showers.  Wind speeds hovering around 15~18mph from the East.  Temperatures reaching the dizzy heights of 3°C (let's call it 270°Kelvin, it sounds warmer :) )

I concur. Fantastic weekend with a great bunch of people, and the weather was great. Seemed like the first blue sky and sunshine I've seen for months. My spin down through Wales to my sister's in Swansea was very enjoyable, on dry roads the whole way. A proper crisp clear winter's day. Now relaxing with a read of the Dragon Rally Picture Gallery book  :)

Great to meet you all at the weekend and thanks for all being so hospitable.  Was a good rally this year, helped a lot by the dry weather.  Had a lovely ride back over to the boat, the long way around via Porthmadog (yes managed to get to the petrol station without running out), Bala, Llangollen and the Ponderosa.

Sadly been reading a lot on the web about stuff getting stolen from tents at the dragon this year, phones in particular.  Can't have been local to the area as mobile phones seem pretty much useless up around there!

That's bad about the thefts. Its a well publicized event, so i reckon it must be local scum coming in to rob. I'm very surprised though, as there are always lots of people hanging round their tents/campfire  >:(
