Title: ITV4 TT Coverage
Post by: timbo on June 08, 2015, 09:12:29 PM
I absolutely love the TT coverage on ITV4 the past few years. I think they've got it just right to hit all bases, ie. bike nuts and people with no bike knowledge. Craig Doyle does a great job, with three sound pundits in Steve Plater, Steve Parish, and Jamie Witham. What do the rest of you think?

Aye timbo,

It's no bad at all. However, if you would prefer something live and have internet access try this link:

TT_Live_timing (http://ttlive.iomtt.com/)

Puts the live timing, used by the commentators, up on screen and you can also bring up the live commentary feed from Manx Radio by using the "Radio" icon at the bottom of the menu panel on the left hand side of the screen. Loads of other bits and info if you are techy or keen, but the commentary and timing screen followed by the 21:00pm ITV4 roundup are fine by me.

Regards, Bill

Just going to mention it but Bill beat me to it! Manx Radio TT do an excellent job covering the races and I also agree ITV4`s coverage is second to none ...... and YES!! ..... on a nice sunny day the island is as nice as it looks on the TV.  ;D

Yes count me in, love the closed road stuff and usually get to Scarborough. Yes I agree with Tim in that itv4 do a great job of the coverage even to the point of not talking over some of the on board shots and you can hear the punishment some of the bikes go thro, brilliant stuff. Just one other thing, was it you manxie that snuck into the tyco tent and sabotaged guy martins bike?? LOL.  Regards Michael

I always watch and find it excellent...proper roads based grass roots motor sport-unpretentious-unlike like other mot(o gp(F1)..up their own back sides and dominated by money and how they all look!!

Well, last day of the TT tomorrow, it`s been a hectic week on the roads and can`t believe it`s nearly all over for another year  :( Still got the Manx to look forward too at the end of August, which I must admit is more my cup of tea (not Guy Martin`s Grrrr  >:( ) classic bikes, classic noises and best of all the odd waft of Castrol R  ;D A little more sedate on the roads than the TT. Look forward to it .....  ;)

Went to the Manx two years ago. Best week on a bike i've ever had. It took me over two hours just to walk round the car park at Jurby on the sunday. Just might have to go over again this year  ;)

Great to hear it!! I only live around the corner from Jurby, a village called Andreas, and every year since they`ve started the Jurby day, I`ve had something on so never been  :o My mate usually has a couple of bikes in the Italian Tent on display. Hopefully make it this year!!

Sure is, his workshop is just a stones throw from my house. I don`t know him personally but his new passenger Benny "Binzy" Binns I know as we used to work together.

Sounds like Jamie Hamilton is in a very serious state. Noble hospital reckoned he wouldn't make it and hes now undergone eleven hours of operations in Liverpool. Just hope he can make some sort of recovery, and hes only 24  :-\

Well Manxie, the deed is done! after jealously watching ten days of excellent TT coverage on ITV4, I finally cracked, and booked for the Manx/Classic in August. Out from Belfast on wed 26th, back via Dublin the following wed. Staying at the lovely Ballamoar site at Ballough for £91 for seven nights for the two of us. All I have to figure out now is how to get me, the mrs, all our camping stuff, two huge dogs, and a C15 into the Berlingo  :-\

Hey...good on ya!!  ;D I`m guessing the Ballamoar camp site is at Ballaugh? Well what would I leave behind if I were in your shoes?.....camping gear.....? dogs.....? C15.....? wife.....? Hmmm?

I know...!!!!

Put the camping gear on the roof!! (bet you weren`t expecting that?)  ;) ;) ;)

Have you been before? In my opinion the Manx is better than the TT because of the older bikes, noises and smells (Cassy R) and the C15 will be ideal for running around on. There are still lots of modern sportsbikes about but no where near the same as the TT. The mountain section stays two ways unlike the TT fortnight where it`s one way (when it`s open...usually shut due to accidents) If you need directions or any local advice, please don't hesitate in asking. I doubt I`ll have a bike on the road in time for the Manx but who knows....maybe? Cheers, Steve

Hey Manxie, SteveH and I are coming over for the Manx, we'll have to meet up sometime. Maybe you could take us on a tour to the best viewing spots. Happy to pay the price of a pint for your expert knowledge.  ;)

Hi Pat, ill give non expert knowledge for half a pint :D Ballaugh is good, as if youre inside the circuit, you have access via internal country roads to other viewpoints including up on the mountain. Though I reckon the church at Bradden is one of my favourite spots. Bench seats, tea and buns, and toilets. Will have to meet up when your over, Alison is going too, and I think Tony is booking his ferrys this morning  :)

Hey fella`s, good to see you`s are all coming over to enjoy the Manx !!  ;D If I can get the time off work I`d gladly join you all to meet for a chin wag or ride out (if I get a bike in time  :-\ )  Timbo has some very good points to view and I also like Ramsey Hairpin because it`s slow, you get a good look at the bikes and the noise as they start to head up the mountain section towards the Waterworks can be "eardrum bursting" sometimes .... get in there!!  ;D ;D midgies can be a pain though  >:( If anyone would like to pm me closer to the time, we could exchange numbers and try to meet up.

Deffo mate. And if you can't get time off work, there's always the ale house at night. ;)

Thanks for the pointers matey. Try stopping me from meeting up... Been far too long, and as I've only got to get you a half, there's even more chance. ;) Where are you staying? Be quite funny if we're on the same site. We'll do numbers by PM nearer the time.

Any thoughts on this fella`s?

http://www.donedeal.ie/vintagebikes-for-sale/ducati-350-single/8986611#xtor=ES-45-

I know nothing about Ducati`s.

I`m searching for a nice thumper, my SP370 Suzuki project will be a while before it`s on the road. I would like either an SR500, XBR500, or a GBTT (but I have a feeling that would be too dear for me?)

 ;)

Aye Manxie,

Appears to be a Sebring 350 narrowcase, could be one of the Hannah shipment that came into Liverpool from America.

Bars, seat and mudguard are not 'original' if that worries you!  :-X  Looks nice and tidy though and not over restored.  :)

Motor appears to have good compression and so it should have on a newly rebuilt motor, but I'm not sure why Derek doesn't use the decompression lever under the left handlebar below the clutch lever, unless he hasn't sorted out the cable or the decompression lever is missing from the front rocker cover.

"New piston, rings, re-bore, bigger con rod for strength." There is probably £800 GBP of bits there + the rebore. Has it had a new big-end and if so what sort and who fitted it? Not cheap if done properly ~£250 -£350.

" New wheels, spokes, tyres, chain, sprockets....." Another £600 of bits.

" Frame was blasted, coated and resprayed." Further £200 - £300 at least.

" electronic timing." Worth it's weight in gold on a Duke and hopefully indicates a new alternator, 12v lights, new wiring and connections, so another £400 there.

Then there is the time spent and cost of the machine to rebuild!

On UK Fleabay probably start at £3,500 and climb, check out Fleabay, but server appears to have gone AWOL at time of writing.

Excellent bit of kit on the Island, I had my 450 over when working in the mid seventies on the Island. 6v electrics were the bane of my life and the alternator rotor went loose on the end of the crank wrecking the taper. However, being the Island, the expertise is available and the crank was metal sprayed and the taper re-machined. Stellite re-inforcement on some parts of the gearbox internals and the gear dogs undercut to make engagement more positive. Setting up the gear selector in the external cover on the right hand side takes time and everything thing needs to be spot on, clean and well lubed. Change the oil after 20 miles, again after 200 miles and then every 1,000 miles, first 3 changes use a good quality 20-50W or straight 40W non-synthetic oil to allow all the bits to 'run-in'. After that straight 40W non-synthetic oil or something like 'Mobil 1' multigrade. Roller big end likes plenty of oil. Always warm the motor through thoroughly afore reving and do not expect to 'plonk' the motor in high gear these things like to rev and with the right cam etc in place will go to 9,000rpm without batting an eyelid once run in. Probably last longer if you keep to 8,000 - 8,500rpm.  ;)

Manuals, the Clymer, is the one for this model, but beware, few of these motors are standard now. The Haynes will get you by, but there are important differences between the narrow and widecase models.

Enough of me, do your own research and if you do buy it, you'll have a grin on your mug down those lanes ;D

My regards, Bill

Hi Bill, great advice and lots of knowledge, thank you very much.  :)

My mate at work is also going to take a look at the advert, he`s big into his Italian stuff and has a lovely little 160 Monza (I think Monza) which he`s restored and made lots of bits for. Sounds like you think it`s worth having? I may make an offer on it ?

Thanks again, Steve.
