Title: Mash
Post by: Mark on June 06, 2015, 01:44:29 PM
Alun XTWill had a stall at the Rorkes Drift Rally in Brecon showing off the bikes that he sells, apart from putting out Enfields (had the nice Continental GT on display) he is also selling the Mash of which he was displaying a limited edition Von Dutch model which was quite nice.

They have a two year warranty on parts and labour so they must have some faith in them.

Mash Roadstar 400..... I read in Classic Bike Guide, very early on this year, that these were a French design, built in China. I contacted the editor because I thought they looked so similar to my Honda CL400, they could almost be regarded as a copy. Pictures were included, and he graciously published my letter and a picture. He remains puzzled as to the Mash's D.N.A. .... I think it is a copy ..... plain and simple... or blatant..?  I couldn't really say. I will attempt to post some pictures of the Honda for you all to make up your own minds. Some of you may remember it at the annual rally at the Baron of Beef in Bucknell , Shropshire in 2011. Regards , Tony ... Ps, struggling with photo's....

Yep, Mash is a French company selling a Chinese built motorcycle. Which is not a criticism, as I think Sinnis, WK, Mash, etc are destined to bust into the European market. A lot of the smaller capacity big name machines are made in China now anyway. The Mash engine is definitely a Honda CL400 copy, as the Sinnis are Suzuki 125 copies.
Strangely, the appointed dealer for my area is a car dealer  :-\
I think they look great, but prefer the standard Mash to the Von Dutch

Quite a few of the better Chinese bikes are licenced copies of some of the older Jap models. Like many things, being made in China isn't automatically bad, some models are very good, some aren't.

I often wondered what these Mash bikes were? It will be interesting to see if many sell? Thinking of imports, has anybody seen or own a Tempest 400? I love the look of them, real nice café style  8)

The Mash 400 retails at £3799 inc VAT. Im not familiar with the Tempest, but a great place to view Japan market only bikes is Googoo bikes.com
They certainly kept some great looking small capacity machines to themselves  :(

Hi guys

Thanks for the mention Mark,

As Mark said, I took a couple of bikes over to the Rorkes Drift Rally. One being the Von Dutch Mash. I have been a dealer for Mash since just after Christmas after seeing them at the trade expo, I must admit I have been impressed with these middleweight machines.

They are more 70's/80's feel than the Enfields and have excellent road manners and performance. The build quality is good, ok some areas could be a little better, but on the whole a neat package.

I have 2 bikes at my shop a red Roadstar and a Von Dutch which is No 50 of 200. If anyone fancies trying out one give me a call at the shop 01646 601984, I am based in Pembrokeshire.

I will post some pictures tomorrow when I am front of my work PC.

Will

Yep, I have photos of your bike Tony, from the Thumper Rally at the Baron of Beef in Shropshire. Lovely bike, no wonder Mash have copied it  :)

I think its a copy of the XR400 engine, the ports for the oil cooler lines seem to match. It may be the same one fitted to that CL, I haven't seen one of those in the flesh.
The Mash intrigues me, I haven't seen any come up used yet, other than one demonstrator. The Von Dutch, if I remember correctly, is a fair bit more expensive than the stock version. There is also an 'adventure' version, the Shineray Cougar 400R, which I haven't seen advertised as a Mash yet.
It seems like its 'coming soon':

I'm starting to hope that there'll be a Chinese 250 based on Honda CB250RS...could ve very handy for NOS spares e.g. cams, otherwise unavailable.

Desperate,, eh?  :)
