Hi fella`s. The SP370 I`ve recently bought (project) has been lying for about 11yrs so as you can imagine, isn`t in the best of conditions. After cleaning the points and gapping (thanks SteveC) also the plug, a Domestos bottle for a temporary fuel tank, and a battery charger connected to the old 6V battery, fired into life again!!!!  ;D  Didn`t even clean the carb out!!  All with the help of my brother in law. So pleased, sounded sweet, made up with it and look forward to restoring!!!!!

Good to hear it's a runner.   I have a lot of fond memories of my old SP370, really sweet motor. I had the later DR400 too but the engine never felt the same, the extra 30cc seemed to spoil it a bit. The only real niggle with SP was the 6v electrics but I believe you can upgrade them to 12V these days - might be worthwhile if it doesn't cost silly money.

I remember the sp well, never had one but always wanted one (bit like a playboy model really) anyway, a mate of ours had one a few years back and restored it up to real good condition. Poor beggar had it nicked by some low life scrote about a week after he,d got it back on the road. Best of luck with your resto project manxie look forward to hopefully seeing a couple of photos maybe. I,m still tryin to figure out how to post some. Regards Michael

Thanks fella`s. I had a DR400 many moons ago too, I must admit the engine on this sounded a lot SMALLER than the 400, if that makes sense? To be fair, it did sound pretty good, and with a charger connected to the battery most of the electrics worked too....indicators didn`t flash. I couldn`t believe the fact it still has the original Suzuki tool kit behind the side panel....chuffed to bits  ;D  I`ll try to get some pics up, it looks very sorry for its self at the moment but hopefully one day it will be back on the road looking good!! ??

At least you seem to have most of it there which is a good start.  I seem to recall there is a collector box for the exhaust just above the swing arm pivot (?) which is made of mild steel and catches all the crap so it rots pretty quickly. It'll be a nic e bike when you get it finished.

Cheers Steve, I hope so? The collector box is still there, just seems to have an after market rear silencer. I haven`t managed to get the side panel off yet to inspect the collector box as every nut, bolt and screw is rusted up. A few sprays with Duck Oil needed and fingers crossed they`ll all come out. When it was running there didn`t seem to be any exhaust noises coming from the collector so maybe it`s ok? Dunno?  :-\ Cheers, SteveW

I`ve seen these at the classic bike shop?? I think?? Look nice. I had a pair similar on one of my XBR`s except longer and cranked, sounded sweet  ;)

Well.....the resto hasn`t started really. I thought my first port of call was to make sure the gearbox was ok before the engine comes out. So 10 minutes ago, I put a dribble of fuel in my Domestos bottle fuel tank, cable tied it to the left hand mirror and kicked the old girl into life. Ran up and down our street selecting 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears, all seems well and even the clutch seemed ok. I suppose I`ll have to bite the bullet and remove the motor now  :-\ Not much spare time on my hands at the minute so it will be a long haul, hopefully be back on the road one day  ;)

Yep, you'll get it sorted eventually. The main thing is, its in your possession  :)  Just been reading about a guy who dispatched one round London in the '80s.

Yep, that's the one. He went through some amount of bikes, and im now an expert in squatting in London in the '80s. The only bit I cant get my head round is the amount of brand new bikes he bought, including a 900SS Ducati when he was 19. Where the hell did he get the money? Were dispatch riders really that well paid  :-\

A bit of useless chatter really but thought I`d just let you`s know I`m still here!! The SP`s resto has ground to a bit of a halt at the moment since any spare time I get, I`m out riding my latest purchase. Just bought a 1971 Moto Guzzi V7 Ambassador, nice bike, good nick, American import about 20yrs ago but man......it`s agricultural. I`ve had a few Harley`s in the past which feel like Limo`s compared to this. Most definitely a new riding experience! When the weather turns I`ll hopefully get a chance to look at the SP although progress has been very slow. Cheers  ;D

The Guzzi sounds a nice bike. Did you get it on the island?

Thanks timbo and yes, I did. The person who imported it lived in the States for a while before moving here and owned it for about 31yrs, then the fella I got it of owned it for about 18 months and was only selling for personal reasons. Very different to ride, right hand...heel toe gear change, one up, three down. Twin leading shoe front brake, which isn`t very good (needs looking at) massive handle bars, panniers, footboards and numbers matching. Apparently an old police bike but no paperwork to prove. I`ve no pictures of it at the moment but will try and get some and post them up  ;)
