How come the calories in my "king pot" pot noodle go up from 150 to 500 just by adding boiling water?
-
From the little packet of sugery sticky sauce that you stir in at the end? (do they still have those?).
-
Who cares, they taste good. Especially the Bombay bad boy, just work harder and you,ll burn it all off again :) :)

350 cals? Shirley not?
Dunno but I'll leave em out from now on. ;D
Someone mentioned working harder? >:( ::)

OK, Ok, let me explain...
Your pot noodle nutritional information does say that there are 150kcals per 100g HOWEVER when you add water the weight of your yummy 'Bad Boy' increases to 385grams so at 150kcal per 100gram you need to multiply that by 3.85 giving you 550kcals!!!!
Who says the intellectual level of the Thumper club only extends to Landrovers, weathergirls and gas stoves!! ... we can solve the mystery of the pot noodle too!!!!!
( ....well we can with a bit of help from the official Pot Noodle website ::) )

Hee Hee.
Wo, ah say woah there professor. So, we have 150 cals locked up in our dry noodly stuff. Then we heat 385 grams of water, which we add. So the water has 350 cals in it? So if I just drink 385 grams of water I take in 350 cals?
Not sounding right.

No, no,
The 150cals are per 100 grams of the prepared (wet) weight , not the dry weight.

Ah, gotcha. Cheers prof . ;)
That's good news for me. I like my king pots a bit on the stodgy side. Gloopy like. Not runny. So I've only been adding half the recommended amount of water.
So half the calories. YEE HAAAH!
Thought I was looking a bit slim. 8)

..erm...sadly ... no.
The 550 calories are contained within the dried bit. When you mix it per instructions it works out at 150 cal per 100 grams but the water has no calories so if you use half the water you just concentrate the calories in a smaller volume - so instead of 150 cals/100grams you have 300cals/100grams - still 550 for the pot.
...sorry....
.....have you considered Ryvita?

Aw.
So the amount of water added is irrelevant to the calories, but affects the mixed weight. Wonder why they express it that way then? It's almost as if they're trying to disguise something.
LIKE THE FACT THERE'S 500 ODD FREAKIN CALORIES IN THERE. >:(
I'm not bitter.
Deep breaths .. And a one...and a two.
;D

Never understood why anybody would want to eat low calorie food. I eat for pleasure and to gain energy. If I want low calorie food all I have to do is eat less.
Simples. Surely.

In a nutshell.
Which, without the nut, is quite low in calories. ;)

Now beer has to be low calorie. Its mostly water and grain after all, with a few hops for flavouring.
Where is the harm in that.

Sounds reasonable. :)
How much grain per pint?

Quick check on Google and the calories contained in malted barley more than account for where the calories in beer come from.
Seems to me that some are actually lost somewhere between malted barley and a pint of beer.
Bottom line. Malted barley is very high in calories.
