Hi All. Here is a date for your diaries. There will definitely be a Thumper weekend at the http://shepherdsrestpub.com/ and campsite in the heart of the Sperrins over 24-26th April 2015. I have just had the date of the Cookstown 100 roadraces confirmed as Saturday 25th April, and reckoned it would be a good idea to combine the two.
We will probably also have a ride-out on the Saturday for those who don't fancy the road racing. We will also use Slim's Café in Draperstown.
So no excuses as you've plenty of notice this time ;)
Cheers, Tim
-
Excellent, there will be 4 arriving with me, make sure that cider is ready. ;D
Mark
-
Add me to the list, will make a nice Birthday to me trip! (59! :o)
-
That's great, look forward to seeing u. Have been thinking, we could watch the Road Racing on the Saturday, and have a ride-out on the Sunday, in other words, stay Sunday night too.
Look forward to giving Steve D 59 bumps :)
-
that's sounds like a good weekend timbo I think me mate and I will head up for that, and 59 bumps for steve D after a few beers ha tommy
-
Hi Chaps.
This sure sounds like an interesting weekend to go on. Can anybody tell me roughly how much the ferry from England would be?
Thanks for any help.

£160 return from Liverpool, you would be better off going from Wales or Scotland.
-
Thanks Mark
This weekend sounds too good to miss so hopefully I would like to come along if you'll have me.
-
The more the merrier. I would like to aim for 30-50 thumpeteers :) For ferry, we always use Nutt Travel 028 7035 1199. Price should be around 90 quid return for a bike and rider. Never had any problem with them, they are a local firm that specialises in travel to motor sport events and bike travel.
-
Thank you Timbo that's really useful information.
-
I'm up for this trip ;-)

Hey Tommy, all I've gotta do is to stay up drinking and if you drink like the some of the other Irish lads (no names mentioned! :o) there'll be no chance of bumps! ;D
-
think I will get some drinking training in over next few weeks ha
-
Hey Tommy, if you know any other like minded chaps, make sure and invite them, as it would be great to get a good irish crowd to the wknd. Me, Tony, and Dec went to the RE rally near Clonmel earlier this year, and they were all a great bunch of RE, MZ, Jawa guys.

hi timbo I have be putting the word about hope a few will travel. did you get my pm about the gb 250 bits tommy

Sounds like a great trip over :) Any more ideas on a Thumper do in the summer at Llanfairfechan Steve D? It sounds like a perfect spot for a do. As long as they'll have us back after you lot have been there on the Thursday night :o Just to confirm, I think stretching it to a run on the sunday is too much, so on the Saturday we will do the Cookstown 100, and or a run. With our sad farewells on the sunday, tho anyone that wants to stay on either at the Shepherds Rest or with me and Alison, is more than welcome :)

Hi Tim, Just spotted this....

-
Thanks Dave. When we were on our run on the Oct wknd, by pure coincidance, we passed the guys planning this weekend coming the other way on one of the mountain roads. Colin at the pub said they called in with him that day as they were planning a wknd event there. So that's another date for the diary, thanks.
-
Small world eh. I remember seeing them....4 or 5 on GS's.
-
Cider update, I made eight batches of cider, the best one being batch 3. So Alison has decided that I have to keep this batch for the end of April ???

Good old Ali, I'm glad at least one of you is thinking of us. Oh and Ronnie of course. :D

After the last meeting with Ronnie, he'd best keep well away from anything alcoholic! :o

I think it was the shock of you buying a round. Took me days to recover. At least I've kept my looks!
Ron.

Now that IS debatable! ;D

He was obviously never much of a looker. :)

I take it you don't have a mirror in your house.

Block booked the bunkhouse in Llanfairfechan for the Thursday night so that's 10 of us coming thus far, this cider better be worth in Timbo. ;)
-
That's great Mark. Of course the ciders worth it, its free ;D That's if it hasn't been used for paints tripping, unblocking drains etc.
-
Cider House Rules! Here's a scary thought, the good old HMRC have seen fit to register me as a legitimate cider producer/seller :-\ They've obviously never tasted it :-\ Don't worry Mark, its still free to thumpeteers, and batch 3 has your name On it :D
-

I'd love to know what you've called it, I hope Ronnie didn't give you any suggestions. :)

Well I live on Ballysculty Road, so what about Skull-T Cider :D

hi tim just put up a notice on biker.ie for thumper owners about the weekend hope to get a few heading up ,do you know what time the roads close for racing Saturday morning thanks mate tommy
-
Hi all, roads close midday on Fri 24th for practice, and 10am on Sat 25th for racing. On the Saturday I hope to combine having a ride out am with spectating pm, but if anyone wants to spend the whole day spectating, that's fine too. :)
-
Hi lads,
Just to let you know, have planned to come up from Mullingar on the Friday. What's the story with camping, do I need to book anything with the Shepherd's Rest or do I just turn up?
Hope to CU there,
Rene
PS been a while since I last visited a Thumper Club rally, must have been in Dent I reckon, 2007 perhaps? Maybe Steve D. remembers what year that was ;-)
-
Rene, just turn up, there is going to be a few of us there.
As for Steve D he can't remember what he did yesterday.
-
Yep just turn up, camping will be £5 per night, and the meal on Saturday evening will be £10. About a week before, I'll try to get a rough head count on here :)
-
Great, thanks for letting me know. Looking forward to it. Hope we get the weather 8)
Rene
-
Shepherds Rest is getting popular :) The Irish Sidecar Owners Club are there the weekend before us lot. Think I'll take a spin up :)
-
Hi folks. I just need to get an idea of numbers for the Thumper Weekend at the Shepherds Rest. Its mainly for dinner on the Saturday night. So if you're coming, please check in here :)
The format for the weekend will be as follows:
Friday evening there is no food laid on, but I can recommend Slims Cafe in the main street, Draperstown. Good cheap grub, and Owen gives bikers a discount. Followed by an evening of light libations and singing round the campfire.
Saturday. If you want to watch the Cookstown 100 all day, racing starts about 10.30, and the circuit is about ten miles from Shepherds Rest. But I think most people want a bit of a run out around the Sperrins, so breakfast at Slims with a full ulster fry ;), then the run will leave there at 11am, and finish at the Cookstown 100 about 2pm, to watch the rest of the race meet. In the evening there's a two course buffet dinner at the Shepherd Rest, probably 7.30ish :)
So safe and pleasant journeys to all 8)
-
Hi Tim,
I'll be bringing 5 non members with me along, I presume the other bunkhouse attendees Steve D, Rick, Gareth and Jethro will also be there.
Mark
-
Hi Tim,
please count me in!
CU there,
Rene
-
Can confirm me and Rick.
PS have the lads been practicing drinking, in anticipation!
-
Let's just say, that certain individuals have seriously curtailed their alcohol consumption since the last do ;)
-
Aha, that means that we just might see them in DAYLIGHT! :o
-
Had a great night last night at the Shepherds Rest. Mixture of Sidecar Club, Guzzi Club, and Mid Ulster Bikers Forum. The guy who organised it used to live in Cardiff and knows Onepot and 002.
Recced the route for the run today, there's even an optional green lane section. Finished with a couple of laps of the Cookstown circuit. The roads are marked out, the bales are up, and and there's a real buzz already. Just hope we get similar weather next weekend :-\
On friday evening, if anybody's up for it, we'll take a run over for a mooch around the race paddock.
Also, Slims Cafe is only open until 7pm, but there is a chip shop a mile outside Draperstown in Straw, if you need grub.
-
Doing a great job getting it sorted Tim, have you arranged for Guy Martin to come over for a cup of tea and a chat.
-
I'll have to pull something out of the bag, cause I've just seen the weather forecast for next weekend on Country file :'(
-
Yep I saw that as well1
Liferaft packed! :-[
-
Unfortunately I cant make it :'(
But do have a good time and dont do anything I wouldnt do ;)

You got to, it's been booked and paid for. :( TREV ARE YOU COMING INSTEAD?
-
So update. There is practice and four races on this Friday, from noon till 9.30 pm. On Saturday, the full race card has fifteen races! All the best.
-
All packed and ready to leave, at least I'll have one day of sun. :-\
-
So that's it over. Another cracking weekend with fellow thumpeteers :) We were small in number, but quality is better than quantity ;)
Dry run up on Friday for everyone. Rain all night, then blue skies, sunshine, and dry roads all day Saturday for the rideout, and racing. Third do we've run at the Shepherds Rest, and hospitality was first class as always. Steve D from Holmfirth and Rick from Southampton have been to all three :)
Some of the lads are off to the highlands of Scotland now. I hope they've brought their snow shovels :-\
-
Just arrived home from a great weekend away. Big thanks to Tim and Alison for organising such an enjoyable weekend. 1st time at this site and I was well impressed. The weather was kind to us, racing was great and the company wasn't too bad either! stayed at the Hotel Rosslare last night and first impressions from the exterior I was a little worried but it turned out to be a cracking hotel, would certainly stay there agin next time I visit Ireland. Thanks again T&A, safe journey to the rest of the guys where ever you are heading.
-
No problem Gareth, it was an absolute pleasure and great to see you all. We are going to run it every year to coincide with the Cookstown 100, but in future, will organise the race spectating a bit better. As neither I, nor the rest of you, really knew what was going on, as the organisers had changed the race programme. Can I recommend you watch the TV coverage if you can get BBC NI, and it will all be a bit clearer ;)
Now relaxing with a wee Jameson's, thanks to the generosity of SRXpatriate. Slainte, Rene :D
-
Slainte, Tim! Well deserved, many many thanks for putting on a great rally, it was a cracker! The Shepherd's Rest is a little gem and why they call that brilliant cafe in Draperstown 'Slim's' is beyond me. In fact, we were so well looked after everywhere all weekend, my jacket all of a sudden seemed 2 sizes too small on Sunday morning :o I seem to recall the very same item fitted me very comfortably on Friday ???
Hope to see you all again some time soon. In the meantime, all the best and keep er lit :) Rene

Hi Tim, Pat & I can't make that one....we're booked in for the Caponord rally in North Wales the same weekend.
Have fun.
Dave.
Pat & I were busy this last weekend....we helped organise a camping/biking
weekend for the Caponord Club at Carrog.
We got there Friday, erected a small marquee, a gazebo and a small frame
tent before the first of 36 arrived.
Friday was spent chatting, drinking...we took loads of booze @ £1 a
can...and a curry delivery, which went down well.
Saturday at breakfast, we had bacon baps available @ £1 and free coffee /
tea. At about 10 we got ready for the rideout....suffice to say it was wet
on and off and cold....180 miles around Snowdonia with me leading....some
turned back to the comfort of the campsite and some continued....In the
evening we'd booked both dining rooms in the Grouse, had a nice meal and
more booze and chat....some stayed and some went back to the campsite for
more chat, booze and a few laughs.
Sunday, some went up to the Ponderosa for breakfast then home, others just
packed up and went home....Pat & I cleared the site and got home mid
afternoon....tired and weary, but it was a successful Rally.
-
Hi Dave and Pat. Sounds like you had a great weekend, as did we. The Grouse is the pub up the hill overlooking the River Dee, and Carrog is outside Llangollen? Great wee motor museum there, and also a nice campsite outside Llangollen itself.
There isn't an annual Thumper Rally planned this summer, but I'm thinking of organising one. Possibly Foxholes campsite, Bishops Castle, south Shropshire. Fantastic area. :D
-
Yes, that's the one....the basic campsite is across the river from the Grouse, that's why we went prepared.
A Summer Rally sounds great, but we are off on our annual Quota Treffen, this year to Sweden, the first two weeks inc 3rd weekend in July. We have been invited to a Viking Wedding....I hope the beer's free.
Dave.
-
That's good to know. I'm thinking possibly second half of June.
-
A brilliant time as usual.
Had a great time and the weather was quite kind to us.
Rick and I had a good run back to wales and I had an extra few days there sorting the run for the XT660 crowd next weekend.
Big thanks to Tim and Alison for sorting the extras at the cottage and to Tim for the run.
The sounds of the big bikes hammering down the straight was brilliant despite them going so fast. Great atmosphere though.
Good to catch up with Rene after a long time.
Too much booze as usual! :o
Got a few pics, but files too big, gotta re-size them and then I'll post if I can find out how to do it!
Cheers Steve
-
Got back last night from the 5 countries tour, a good week that was kicked off excellently thanks to Tim and Ali with the organisation of the TC rally/Cookstown 100 weekend.
Regards and thanks are sent from myself and the rest of my crew and all are looking forward to next years.

Glad you all had a good time !
Wish I could manage it......hopefully next year ;-)

I must admit I bottled out of this weekend. After the accident last time I went over to NI I just didn't dare suggest to the wife that I was going again.
Maybe next year ;-) She'll have forgotten by then, surely.
Glad to see you all had a great time.

Hope to see you at Baskerville.

I'll be there. Already booked Friday off work.
