Just got back from a round trip to penrith via alston and back via teesdale on my GN250, 2nd time this week i have done it, nice rides both days but tonked it down coming home today just after Hartside to nearly home, the bike averaged 92 mpg from both runs !! how good is that ! and i wasn`t going too slow either... ( yes i know it`s a sad thing to check on)

You running the higher gearing?

No still on the same gearing, ( 16/39 ) i had to replace the back wheel after a coming together with a humongous pothole resulting in 5 broken spokes, so sprocket will have to wait

PAH! you're not trying hard enough, I never got more than 65mpg out of mine! ;).....
........mind you it was pretty knackered......
.....actually come to think of it I probably only got got 92 out of a pint of oil!.....that makes it practically a two stroke!

aaah ! oil consumption, it loves oil, i have to carry an emergency top up bottle in the tool box under the side cover ! i don`t know where the oil goes, people following me never notice any smoke, it does leak a little from the head bolts but not enough to lose the amount i have to replace !

I don't think I ever did an actual oil change on mine in all the 25K miles I had it as the oil consumption changed the oil every month anyway! I occasionally changed the filter, but never the oil.
You might also find it eats rear tyres rather more quickly than you would expect for a little bike - I don't think I got more than about 5k miles out of a back tyre! I did alter the gearing a bit as I ran smaller tyre than the 520-16 that was standard ( expensive and hard to find) and it's only a 16" wheel so I suppose it's spinning round quite fast but still I would have expected more - my MZ did at least 8k out of a back. They also eat cheap chains and sprockets. Oh and check the rear spokes - mine broke on a regular basis.
Oh and try to keep the exhaust or at least the front pipes in good condition as they rot through where the 2 pipes go into one and finding a decent replacement is nearly impossible.
If you find it leaks petrol when you park it up with the fuel tap on it's the needle valve seat - it fits in the carb with a rubber 'O' ring to seal it and hold it in place and after a while it wears so the fuel gets past.
In spite of all that it was a really good little bike!

Honda are blowing their trumpet on a new 250 model to be launched soon claiming it to do 92 MPG!!!!

I don't buy MCN or any mags these days (too much BS) but I inevitably miss out on the odd interesting development.

Impressive spec and performance for a 125.....though I note no price is mentioned!
134mpg may be possible at 30mph, however it's a 125....it's a sports 125.....90% of the buyers are probably going to be young kids rather than commuters and I bet it won't give 134mpg when being ridden with the throttle against the stop "..poised and stable at 85mph" ;D

My YBR125 used to give around 120mpg when ridden moderately.
Commuting into London would make that drop below the 100mpg.
It was also a bit slow and made you feel a bit vulnerable.

MPG is only half the battle IMHO. Tank size is the other piece of the puzzle. No point getting 100 MPG then blowing the saving by having to buy watered 2-star at some farmers shed for 15p a litre more than the supermarkets are charging.

I seem to remember the YBR had a 13l tank so it had a possible range of 300 miles. I never tested that theoretical range.
My MT-03 is not quite so frugal and gives around 43mpg. :'(
On a run to the Isle of Man my SRX400E returned 96mpg much to the disgust and dismay of my friend on his ZXR400. We tootled along at around 50mph on average so that helped immensely.

my 250RS does 140-150 to reserve and a bit and i get a bit nervous.
mixture of bimbling and picking up its skirt and noising up the traffic ;D

just filled the tank on my BSA 250 after a 170 mile ride, it only took 6.94 litres !! which i think equates to about 110 mpg ! marvelmouse...
