Its is time for a change, the site activity has dropped to next to nothing so clearly something needs to be done to keep a community of Thumper owners together. In an attempt to address this I have created a Facebook group which can be found HERE (https://www.facebook.com/groups/thumperclub/)
Facebook provides a much easier way to interact with others, its easier to posts pictures from phones or your PC and you can opt into email notifications. Messages from all your groups are all centralised in one place.
I would encourage you to sign up for the group.

Its good to have the Facebook site up and running

Excellent idea.

I left Facebook because they bombarded me with **** about people l barely knew and more to the point don't give a hoot about in a day to day sense. Talk bikes yes, but....
Steve is having chips for tea
Mary who you met once ten years ago is now a tenth level ninja at Facebook game of empires
Bob who you hated at school but who bombarded you with friend requests and occasionally goes in your local has invited you to join his Morris dancing group.
Unless it has changed and you can switch this rubbish off I won't be rejoining ( no offence intended).

So create a new account and dont 'friend' anyone, that way you only get the posts from groups you have joined.
-
Will sign up when get back home as not allowed to use works computer for face book. despite the Trust having its own Chief Exec facebook page etc. have wondered if this might happen eventually as most other sites have facebook involvement.

Tis a great shame, I have enjoyed this site since the very early days, I have no intention of being involved with Facebook, so when this site goes I will sadly go with it.

There is an SMF Mod which 'may' link the forum and Facebook, which would mean the site is retained, when I get time I will look into it.
-
I for one would prefer to keep the forum, as it's easier to access and will not get mixed up with all of the rubbish on FB :)

True, but there is little point to maintaining a forum that no-one is using !
-
At a quick glance, 38 topics had at least one post in April, most of those more than one.
They're not exactly blistering stats, but it doesn't seem to be its last legs yet.
As for Faceache, you won't find me on there either.

Aye SteveH,
"Pussbook" as is colloquiol for "Facebook" up here. ::) ::) Seems apt for some of the comment etc! It doesn't inspire me with glee, but if push came to shove, I would probably use it, with less regularity than the forum.
The forum is like the well worn, leather club chair, you can slump into at the end of a day with a wee dram and find a bit of comfort. Whilst "Pussbook" can be, but not always, similar to early morning Radio1, which I have 'stumbled' across in early morning radio retuning. Mindless gob***** through a cacophany of blasphemous, introspective, sexist rapping.
May I take this opportunity to "Thank you" for your perseverence in maintaining the forum all these years and hope that you may see fit to maintain it a while longer, rather than it falling off it's perch like a "Norwegian Blue"! ;)
My thanks, Bill.

Hello
Just saw this. Things have been a bit nuts down here of late. Still thumping tho!
Steve, I agree with your point re the stats. It is a bit quiet......
However, I also won't join a fb group, tho I do have a profile and it is a useful tool to keep in touch.
I prefer separate forums, not sure why! A lot of the delorean guys use their fb groups, and the benefit there is that it is really multi national. But I havent joined, and the dmc forums suffice for me.
Just my 2p. Cheers for now, and thank you steve for all your work.
Love you all!
A
Ps. First time I need some help, opinion, bits, or favours, I would probably join the fb group in the absence of a tc forum!!
-
I accept that I have not posted in some time. However, I do visit and I have no intention of joining farce book. I am aware of the type of drivel that ends up on there.
Sorry but will not be joining any site based on face book.

There has been a mixed response to this, but little in the way of constructive suggestions on how things could be improved and the site made more accessible. I am working on installing a Facebook/Forum plugin but I have no idea on how well it work. Other than that I am open to ideas.
-
Generally when a FB page is launched, the web site (or forum) records a large loss of connections.
However I find a forum more comfortable and easier when it comes to search for a past post and to avoid posts you're not interested in.
The list presentation of FB is not very practical, but FB is the place to be. I do prefer the forum style.
I'm not very keen on web marketing to enhance the hits and members participation but it suits me like that. Perhaps you could ask members to realize tutorials when they fix/mend something on their bike ?
-
To further add to the thoughts on this page, I thought that I would add a link to a blog that I follow from an Australian motorcycle enthusiast. It would appear that a similar falter in 'Forums' has been noted over there and that having a 'Pussbook' link to the Forum has lifted the Forum traffic.
Link: Phil_Hall's_Motorcycling_blog (http://www.halfofmylife.com/2014/05/26/forums/)
Enjoy Phil's blog as well.
My regards, Bill.

Puss book?
Can't see it getting through the formidable censorship on this site.
:'(
;D

Aye Propeller,
Colloquial expression and my apologies for appalling spelling! ::)
pus. Scottish East Coast, Edinburgh and Dundee, means face in a derogatory sense. :o
My regards, Bill. ;)

+1 I would hate to see this site gone its like an old friend ,though its a lot of work for those that run it and a big thank you for tc maybe we should include our other bikes ,there are 1or2 on here that post on old skol suzuki ,bike pics rallys ect just a thought . and what other bike site talks about stoves tommy

The site is paid for by the ads at the top of the page, if no-one uses the forum then traffic through the site drops and the money from advertising drops.
I will try and find cheaper hosting a some point.
So in summary Use it or Lose it
-
just requested to join the group (i already have a facecrack account)
as for low forum "taffic" if been a member and a lurker for a while and noticed that posting comes in peaks and troughs

Same here, don't have a facebook account and don't want one. Joined once, bombarded by people wanting to be my friend who I don't know, I am sure I am not that famous!
-
See my post to the thread "Cheers".
-
I'm another one TRYING to resist the lure of FB. I know my potential to be addicted to it, and never DO anything. However, it maybe can't be ignored.
Can I take this chance to say thanks to all on here so far...I only rarely post, but I regularly pop in for. Wee read, same as With NTV and CX non-thumper forums.
Be nice if they an both run, as suggested. However, I appreciate it's a free service, so...
Cheers

I hang my head in shame due to my paucity of posted drivel on this forum. Sorry.
I'm here now, and I want to use this site more. I use fartbook but grow wearisome of some of its aspects, notably it's spying/logging policy.
Still riding my WildeBeast (MT-03) and lusting after TV weather girls so not much has changed in my life as of late.
However, I use an iPad thing sometimes now and that keeps me logged into this site so my input should rise ;D
-
I'm in the fartbook club - thanks Steve :D
-
Im not an FB user and seem to have the same opinions as a the anti FB brigade. I agree with Steve with the use it or lose it approach. I know I havent been "around" for a few months but have kept in touch.
I hope you are all enjoying the good weather and riding loads

Well I'm definitely in the Non FB club as I live under the radar and prefere forums.
The thing is, what makes a good forum? I've been on others like the MZ riders and that's not as busy as it used to be but if you go on the Two Stroke Forum then you'll find it's packed with people every night and there seems to be a lot of comical bitchy banter etc and general fun. The lads always meet for mini rides and cafe meets and it's crammed full of pictures.
We all like our different thumpers but maybe we need to meet up in small groups and talk bikes after a blast or two around some nice roads?
Any other ideas? Eric
-
Morning all, Always up for a ride out, so if anyone out there fancies hooning around the Yorkshire dales or the trough of bowland (slower pace, generally smaller roads) just let me know and we,ll see if we can sort something out. Regards Michael

Yes that's the spirit!! Where's bowland Michael, I might come over? Eric

Evening tigcraft,
The trough of bowland is basically the big piece of land that encompasses the ribble valley, so on a map it,d be right of Lancaster and North of Blackburn. Plenty of small tight twisty roads but very easy to get lost ( without a map) I know the dales much better but generally it gets busier and the roads are slightly bigger (wider) so the speeds can be higher, (which I prefer). See wot you think and let me know if you fancy meeting up at some point. Best regards Michael . Ps where are you based?

Actually it sounds good as it's some where I haven't explored yet. I'm based in Holmfirth bottom of West Yorkshire and at the top edge of the Peak District and also nr saddleworth moor. I did actually buy my bike from nr Blackburn many years ago. Ill pm you over the weekend. Eric

Morning tigcraft
I know holmfirth, I was born and raised in Bradford, then lived in Haworth for a while but moved over the border approx 7 yrs ago and now live in a village called barrowford not to far from burnley. (near boundary mill). So I,m lucky enough to have both the trough o bowland and the York,s dales pretty much on my door step. Anyone else fancy a run out at some point? Regards Michael
