If it is an original it is definitely two parts. I recently removed mine to fit new seals and clamps and could not get it to fit when I put it back, I found that I had left the old seals inside the cylinder head, once removed, Bingo!

The XBR500H had a one piece system, i.e. the silencer welded to the downpipe.  The early models had seperate parts.

cheers guys
they look like they are two piece so will try the old block of wood and rubber mallet technic to split them

My XBR500 H has front pipe and silencer as one piece - though it looks like they could be split they can't.

I had this problem with my left side silencer not apparently lining up with the mounting holes.I had to sweat and swear to get it back on!
