Just fired up my XBR, after 2 years of work ,,and buying it as a non runner.The engine fired in an instant, typical Japanese reliability, the only problem is I cannot switch it off on the ignition or the emergency cut out,turned the fuel tap to off in the end. Im sure theres a simple answer,I did put another electric loom on it, the previous one was butchered,any one with any thoughts much appreciated.

When I had this problem it was the ignition switch.
In order to stop the engine the switch has to MAKE contact not cut. So sounds like your cut out and ignition switches are not making contact. Black wires in both cases I think. (maybe black/white)

That sounds right - many years back I had a Triton with a kill switch which looked and worked like a horn button, MAKING contact to cut the ignition. It had no ignition or key switch at all. Problem was, it sometimes did that in heavy rain, so I eventually removed it. My options then were to run out of petrol, put it in gear and stall it, or best (once I got he knack) was to open the throttle fully very quickly from tickover which stalled the engine too - I must try that on the XBR now you've brought back the memories!

There is a point where the two earth connections, from the ignition switch and the kill switch, join before going to the CDI unit. A bad connection there would prevent the CDI from receiving an earth, which seems more likely than both switches failing together. This could be a fault in the new harness or it has become detached during removal/fitting.
