Title: CB250RS FRAME CENTRE STAND MOUNTINGS
Post by: xbally on February 20, 2014, 01:48:27 PM
Someone has butchered the centre stand mounting area of my RS250 frame so that when the stand is used the bike lurches over to the right alarmingly. Can anyone post me a picture of the standard set up as i assume there must be a stop to prevent the stand going over centre?I can then hopefully get someone to fabricate and weld on the missing part. Many thanks

Hi xbally, what usually (meaning every time) happens is that the tube that the stand pivots on seizes in the stand then both turn in the frame making relatively small round holes into rather bigger oval ones which usually requires fabrication of a pair of plates which will need welding over the existing bracketry and drilling for whatever size pivot you intend using. This situation is  usually compounded by the problem you've described of the stand going too far forward and not lifting the bike clear of the ground. When the bike is raised the top of the stand relatively close to the pivot hits a tube welded to the frame as a 'stop', this tube rusts through and partially collapses allowing the stand to go too far 'over-centre' so the only real answer is while you're getting the fabricated plates welded is to obtain a piece of similar tube to replace the original and get that welded in as well. The original piece of tubing whilst it was adequate when new wasn't the thickest stuff in creation and doesn't stand thirty years deterioration. Best of luck.
