Title: Customs forms nightmare
Post by: JOOLZ on January 15, 2014, 04:16:35 PM
I have stripped the new XBR head down now, ready to send to the U.S.A for its big fin head mod. Suzanne and I are now going through all the export exemption certification and all the other legal rubbish so I dont have to pay import duty on my own head, just for the work done.
Its a pity no one in the U.K does this work as it would make life a lot more simple. Hopefully I can send it early next week, although I haven't got a clue as to how long it will be before I get it back, Oh well the bikes off the road for the winter anyway.
Picture is of the modification they do

Hi joolz,   I assume you are getting the mod done to improve cooling on your tuned engine?  Can,t someone in this country simply build up the fins with ally weld then grind and polish them back?  I know this is a practice that is sometimes carried out within the "custom /chopper". Scene, I believe mainly for looks rather than a performance upgrade. Either way can,t see it being a cheap job to do. Keep us posted on your progress.  Regards moto63

Not a good idea building up the fins with weld, its very easy to distort the head. The company that does this head mod clamps the head in a jig before welding so it wont distort
