Title: SRX Monoshock Project
Post by: Steve H on December 30, 2013, 10:36:07 PM
Does the fairing and tailpiece work on this ? I have been staring at it too long to be objective.

And yes  photo shop skill are poor, and yes there is a big hole where the engine is supposed to be.

Aye Steve,

Aesthetics now!  ;)

For my pennyworth, it appears the compromise lies between the 'flick ups' of the fairing lowers and the angle of attack of the screen surface. Drop the lowers to reduce the 'flick up' and the screen shovels everything into your fizog. However, the 'flick up' line runs parallel with the top of the knee indents and if it were mine, I'd be chuffed with acheiving that 'look'.

Seat looks fine, the stop of the upholstery and start of the tail lining up with the end of the tubes (There'll be a X brace in there!). As long as it's comfy and not like sitting on the proverbial barbed wire _____, it'll be fine.

Photo shop looks fine to me.

Rhetorical question from me; why do matt or satin black cast wheels look so 'right'? Jelly bean colours and white just don't! Sally's anodised silver and polished alloy '87 SRX wheels I've got used to and haven't coated as I'm too tight to spend the dosh on a potentially dubious cosmetic disaster. How do you know when the preparation has been done correctly and an undercoat applied afore the final powder coat finish is applied. I know you can get kits from Frost's, but is DIY the only answer?

Enough of my rambling, I look forward to reading others thoughts and good luck with the project Steve.

Have a grand and healthy 2014.

My regards, Bill.

Hi Steve, As is patently obvious my Photoshop skills are bloody awful, however what I am trying to show is a softening of the curve at  the hand cut-out on the fairing and a shortening of the seat tail at an angle to match the back of the tank. Let the criticism start

Hello Steve

I could live with the tailpiece but the fairing in my mind needs to be pulled back a touch 3’in or so.
Good luck with the project.

Thanks for the feedback, I must admit the more I look at it the less I like the fairing. For some reason it brings to mind the fairings they had on the Z1000's in Mad Max, a bit out of proportion to the rest of the bike.  Might look for something more compact.

Are you keeping the kickstart engine Steve?

Ian

Not decided yet. I have enough bits to build a kickstart engine and also have a running Skorpion engine, but to use that I would need to find somewhere to mount the radiator and oil tank. Putting an air cooled top end on the 660 motor is another option.

its a twinshock chassis?...  so, with the standard 600 kickstart engine ther'll be no need for an offset sprocket?

the seat/tail is good... big improvement on the twinshock unit and the monoshock

not convinced about the fairing... think it would look better if the rear base bits followed the line of the frame instead of kicking upwards.

interesting project though...  and... I like white wheels... got a pair of magnesiums on our old track bike.. look good in white with blue fairing....

Yep, twinshock chassis. I may need to move the chain out to improve tyre clearance.

I find the seat too long on your first photo, but don't forget UK is supposed to be a rainy place  ;)

Same remarks for the fairing than the others.
