Title: xbr (will later model starter fit older model) ?

hi, my 1985 xbr 500 f uses a mitsuba sm 8 starter motor, later model xbr's use a pc15 starter motor. my question is will the pc15 fit my xbr or is there a real difference between the two ?

The answer to this would interest me, as i currently have an undiagnosed starter problem on my XBR.  I may, in due course, be looking for a replacement starter.

 There were 2 different covers/casings for the starter motor gears so maybe not but I can't tell you for sure.
