Title: Peter Williams Motorcycles
Post by: andy230 on June 26, 2013, 01:55:51 PM
As a big fan of Norton, Peter Williams, and general british parts bin rubbish, I am duty-bound to post this.

http://peterwilliamsmotorcycles.com/

Spread the word, in case anyone has a spare, oooh, about 85k rattling about in a bank account...?

Alternatively, we could just discuss it...  Honourable project from a good guy I think.

best wishes to all!

Aye Andy,

Dribbling is obviously a problem you are experiencing!  ;)  I just hope the seats are better fitted this time around!  :o  Not that I am knocking 'Noton', just think I prefer their singles to the twins. S'pose a 850 Interstate with a single Mikuni and soft cam is more like a single.

No, I don't have a spare £85K and I think a good Laverda 750 SFC would be more fun and still have change from my £85K. That might go towards a Ducati Supermono!  ;D Not that I have the ability to ride them to their full potential.  :-[

Trust you are in good health, "Georgie Poorgie" has now stuffed the job, so may bale out!  :-\  I note that you have been ring fenced, but diagnosed as being 'stressed', by some panel of 'Quacks' known as the BMA!  ::)

Regards, Bill.

Great fan of PW.... a brilliant engineer... and in the 70's a great rider.... latterly (until fairly recently) he worked up here in Norfolk at Lotus..  some of his published work is worth reading... a great thinker

yes...85 big ones is a bit on the high side... but Bill... that 85k would buy you half a Ducati Supermono!!

anyway... I think PW's bike will end up being bling in the well heeled garages

I want one........

Peter Williams was one of my hero when I was a child. And the JPS was so beautiful.

Aye Steve,

I would certainly agree with your sentiments in the first paragraph.

As for my faux pas on the price of a Supermono, I just think that is barking, if they are fetching that sort of money! What about one of the English built ones as a road bike using belt drive 900 and Testastretta bits, humble pie if I've got that wrong as well! Whilst I enjoy a Duke single, I haven't got overly anorack, yet!  ::)

S'pose bling in a garage is better than digits on a bank spreadsheet.

Good health.

My regards, Bill.

Hi Bill, I seem to recall that there was an article in Classic Bike a couple of years ago, about a guy making new supermono's... he was an ex ducati engineer...and he was making them with the blessing (and assistance) of ducati... not sure on the price... but this might be an indication of the going rate....blummin eyewatering !!

I still want one...even more than an egli Vincent

Great bloke PW. Always interesting to read. Shame he's not making a replica of the Wheelbarrow Matchless...

I remember having a good look at a Supermono in Baines Racing a few years ago.

Very nice looking bike.

Mmmm!  Yes, that is the bizness, no??

I had to f'ck off up to glasgow for the weekend (just after posting, really, so not being too rude, for a change!!).  I lay under a very poor silver car for a few hours, after which I got an MOT.    8)

(Admittedly the skooshers (washers, for the southern fairies!) only worked as I rigged up a plastic squeeze bottle and a length of hose tied onto the windscreen wiper, which I queezed at the appropriate request from the MOT man.   ;D

I thrashed it for anput 30 rural miles home.  In this time/ distance:

Suspension clonks appeared
Clutch started slipping
Clutch master started leaking
Speedo stopped working
Fuel guage stopped working
Indicator failed

I put it away and got drunk.

I would like a Duc Supermono.  Lottery win needed!

Crikey. Sounds like a very poorly vehicle.

As for the Wheelbarrow Matchless, apparently he could 2-wheel drift it with ease at the TT  :o

Have you ever seen the photo of his big JPN crash? The whole tank-seat unit is sliding off the bike and PW is going with it... it's bloody horrific. The entire accident was caused by the failure of the seat fixings.

I'll see if I can dig it out, I can't find it on-line. A sad end to a fantastic racing career

Yeah, there's one blurry shot of that crash, I know the one you mean.  Pretty nighmarish stuff.

Have you read his memoirs/ autobiography?  Its fascinating stuff.

Well, none of those issues is considered anything but routine, with regard to the handsome silver turds which John Z DeLorean plopped out in 1981  !!  (other than the clutch-slip.  The engine and box is on the whole a pretty good unit. )  In fact there are some very routine problems which are much worse...

We shall overcome!

Reverse Light switch for a DeLorean on saturday at 8 am in glasgow for the MOT at 2??

Yes   ;D  Renault Traffic van, amongst a million others.  5 quid...

Rover SD1 steering UJ  18 quid

Both about 20% of "official" DMC parts.  Happy scotsman...

Aye Andy,

Two words "Barking" & "Tight".

Ken where you're coming from though with the latter, but can't get my head around the choice of silver turd (intergalactic black hole for dosh)!

Slainte, Bill.

Shame on you Andy!.... you mean you didn't actually get them to pay you to take the parts away?... or at the very least donate them to a worthy cause?.... which reminds me....what happened to the tenner I donated to the thumper racer project.... I guess that must now be part of the de lorean parts bin  ;D..... I think you're slipping mate  ::)

Nothing worse than seeing a man losing his 'blag'  ;)

He used to be a master blagger you know...

That tenner is hanging on a cable tie on my bench (has been for about 2 years!) in the shape of (2?) solid balancer shaft gears for the 640 motor   ;D :P

How is that by the way?  I have some 660 bottom end bits if you need...?

GC, that made me dig out this photo of my old man (below).  DRD's 7R is clearly a good bit slower than PW.  And its not just the 150cc's difference!!

There's an article in the current MCN about PW and his bikes.  Worth a look for you fans.
