Title: North West 200 - TV coverage
Post by: guest7 on May 14, 2013, 08:22:29 AM
It's that time again and thanks to digital televsion we can all enjoy BBC NI's coverage of the event.

Here's a link to the BBC NI NW200 Web page (http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/northern-ireland/22466202)

Despite road racing being the last refuge of the pure race two stroke, the smaller classes now have more thumpers in the ranks.

And BBC NI showed their Cookstown coverage last night. Good results for Guy Martin and Michael Dunlop (3 stone lighter than last year!).

Great rides too from Dean Harrison and Jamie Hamilton, they are road racing's future stars. I hadn't heard much about Harrison until I watched the coverage of last year's Scaborough races. He ragged the arse off his bike to challenge the big names. He was terrifying over the leap  :o

The 450 singles and supertwins classes sounded awesome.

Not sure I entirely agree with this type of road racing. An analogy might be between boxing and cage fighting: both are dangerous but you know that in one of them someone is very likely to suffer greater injury for your titillation.

I believe totally in freewill - if they want/need to do it, and you want/need to watch it I see no reason to stop it - just not my cup of tea. Come to think of it neither is boxing or cage fighting for that matter; but I do like tea though!

PURE, REAL ROAD RACING. Sorts the men from the boy's None of this mamby pamby, micky mouse circuits with super grip surfaces with plenty of safe runoffs Pahh. Nearest they come to pure road racing is Macau.
Long live the IOM TT and the North West 200

Why waste your money?

Why waste your money?

Unfortunately, as motorcyclists, we're (most of us) too far down the 'needless-expense-in-pursuit-of-a-hobby' path already  ;)

I'll happily concede that it was a waste of money if, after the event, that is my conclusion. But previous experience tells me that I will probably enjoy it enormously. However, I do realise that roundy roundy racing isn't everyone's idea of a grand day out. Personally I only do it for the food, those racetrack burgers are... erm... ok, they're shite  :)

I was considering going to a round of the BTCC (Touring cars), the racing this year has been intense and manic, anyone else been following the series? It hurts me to admit it, but this car series is probably the hardest racing I've seen this year. Three-abreast through Craner Curves? Blimey!

That'll be the Arabian sword then! Live by it and die by it. May I ask what has gone 'Phut' or is the whole episode to "tender" at present.

Trust you are all well?

My regards, Bill.

Hello Bill,

Yes, I am very well thanks.  Life seems quite good just now, tho the lack of sleep over the last couple of weeks due to sprog and wife illness has been doing my nut in a bit.  Thus my exodus to Glasgow for a weekend!

No, the Scimitar is all good.  Its not getting a lot of use at present, but to be honest I can't fault it.  The last "big" jobs were:

PAS rack rebuild (with new lines)
Caliper rebuild, closely and quite annoyingly immediately followed by
Brake master cylinder replacement.

Prior to that was replacement of all hoses by silicone numbers about a year ago.  Mmmm!  Fit & forget?  I hope so.  None of which actually caused any sort of breakdown, just warranted attention and fluids!  Which I wasn't prepared to put up with!

No William, the Reliant appears to be ok.  It was the stainless steel wunder-car which was getting my love.

Over the last 18 months:

Fuel pump, lines, and associated in-tank gubbins (all knackered after 30 years)
Front springs (saggy and soft)
Front shocks (Damping??  No sir, not us!  We are Girlings!  And we are now 30 years old too!)
Front anti roll bar bushes (shot!!)
Door strut repair (had been trying to climb out the fibreglass underbody)
4x calipers rebuilt and painted  (Cortina up front, Jag at the back)
4x stainless brake flexi's fitted
New brake master (Saab 99 part!)
Fog light for MOT

Slowly-slowly-catchy-monkey.  MOT next month I hope, then I will bring it south, and lay up the scimitar for a while.... Well, thats the plan anyway!  How are your thongs going?  Duc??

Cheers
